Super Bowl LII pits two very deserving teams against each other in a battle to be crowned NFL Champions. The Eagles used efficiency and their relentless defence to overcome the Vikings in the NFC Championship game. The Patriots took a different route as they overcame a late deficit to take the lead in the final few minutes and held on for a win against the Jaguars.
Both teams have smart head coaches and opportunistic defences which will be key in deciding this matchup. The double barrel of Ajayi and Blount will be peppering the Patriots defensive line looking to keep them honest and give Foles the opportunity to find his receivers deep. Brady certainly does not have age on his side but his talents seem to defy that. Brady has such a quick release time that it helps find short yards and avoid the impact of being sacked by a defensive lineman.
1. The Patriots are 159-15 when they win the turnover battle
2. The Eagles are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 as 5 point underdogs or more
3. The Patriots are 9-1 H2H and ATS in their last 10 after an ATS loss
The Patriots are primed for a big performance here with the Eagles coming off one of the biggest wins in the franchise’s history. The Patriots were born for high intensity football and that is just what we have going into this one. The Patriots will likely look to utilize their short to intermediate passing game feeding Gronkowski, James White, Dion Lewis and Amendola in the slot. This will keep Foles off the field and hurt any sort of rhythm he will try and find.
The Eagles will need to lean on their front four intensely. If Brady gets too much time to throw the ball he could carve out inroads all day. The defensive line for Philadelphia need to ensure they’re encroaching on Brady’s space and cutting off passing lanes. It’s hard to see Foles repeating his performance from last week at least without making some mistakes along the way.
The Patriots, having been there and done that are likely going to find their offensive rhythm before Foles and the Eagles do. With that said, Brady to Gronk on the end zone has been a great play in recent matches.
Rob Gronkowski has the speed and size to trouble the Eagles defensive backs. I don’t see who can cover him and with his injury status possibly causing the Eagles to overlook him, he could be in line for a big night starting with the opening touchdown.
If the patriots win Brady is odds on to be the hero holding the trophy. Wouldn’t the media love that to be the story? Brady, at such an advanced age by footballing standards cements himself further in the annals of Super Bowl history clinching his 6th ring. Sounds like a story worth selling.
If you’re a value punter and you’re looking for something a little bit juicier, Dion Lewis is your man. Brady has been known to make errors later in the season. He may lean heavily on Lewis who is a back that can be used in any situation. Lewis seems to slip through the cracks time and time again. The diminutive little man is the value play for MVP.
