Can the Dragons continue on their good start to 2017 when they take on the Tigers?

Incredibly the Dragons are 3-1 to the start the season and have become the first team to register 100 points after four rounds – it took them 10 rounds to do it in 2016!

They head into this off the back of a 26-12 win against the Warriors at Kogarah.

Wests Tigers began life without Jason Taylor on a brighter note but blew a big lead to eventually fall to Melbourne 22-14 at Leichhardt Oval.

STGEORGE ILLAWARRA are averaging 25 points per game in the opening month of the competition.

Having struggled to score points in recent years, this is a big improvement for Paul Macgregor’s side who are leading the competition in points and tackle busts (34, equal with Brisbane) and rank second for running metres (1482 metres per game).

Thanks to their impressive forward pack headed by new recruit Paul Vaughn, Tyson Frizzell and Russell Packer, they are laying a platform for the outside backs and captain Gareth Widdop to do their thing.

There were some positive signs for the Tigers last week but that was to be expected.

Most teams do lift once their coach gets sacked and even though they raced out to a two-try lead, Tigers fans were left disappointed at the spiritual home as the Storm’s class shone through.

For all their talent the Wests Tigers still need to learn to do the basics right. One of the big pluses of last week was they only conceded 22 points which was a marked improvement on the 82 points they conceded against Penrith and Canberra the two weeks prior.

The Dragons have won three of the past five matches but it’s the Tigers with the better of the recent results, getting the points twice in the past three.

Double figure margins are common in this fixture with five of the past six games being decided by 13 points or more. Defence as a whole isn’t common either with an average of 47.5 points being scored in the past six fixtures.

The $2.95 that Sportsbet has on offer for the Total Match Points to go over 45.5 could be worth having a crack at.

Stgeorge Illawarra’s consistency makes them the logical tip here but they definitely aren’t a special by any means.

Although they have had a strong opening month with wins against Penrith, Cronulla and New Zealand we want to see a few more wins against their name before we start backing them with confidence.

They don’t have the best record at ANZ Stadium (losing seven of the past nine) so that gives the Tigers a decent crack here, considering they are the home team and have won their past three games at the venue.

Wests Tigers biggest concern is how to stop leaking points (30.5 average – worst in the NRL) and whether they can cope with the loss of Luke Brooks through injury.

While they are talented and still have the likes of Mitchell Moses, James Tedesco and Aaron Woods, can they produce something special to break this solid Dragons outfit?

Other tip:

JOSH DUGAN To Score a Try – the fullback has four in his past five games against the Tigers.
