Big things were tipped of the Saints this year and they simply must win this to keep their finals chances alive.

St Kilda faces a must win game just three weeks into the AFL season. The Saints were widely tipped to return to the finals this season and some were taking it a step further by suggesting the club could win its first premiership since 1966.

St Kilda looked set for a rare win away last week away to West Coast, before the Eagles kicked five goals to one in the final term to record a fortuitous 19-point victory.

The last time these teams met was at Etihad and the Saints won by 58 points with a thumping 264 points scored.

We anticipate a similar scoreline and so the overs (O/U 204.5 Total Match Points) @ $1.19 with bet365 looks a tremendous bet.

Brisbane has made a bright start to the season but recent history is not on their side.

The Lions went 1-9 outside Queensland last year and 1-6 in Victoria with that one victory against a depleted Essendon side.

The Saints, despite their season record of 0-2 would be feeling good about themselves on the back of a much improved performance against West Coast.

Young midfielder Seb Ross caught the eye with 29 touches and will again play a key role in the midfield this week and looks a good bet in the Group B option.

Emerging forward Paddy McCartin looked extremely threatening against the Eagles last week, but was wasteful in front of goal kicking 2.3 and failing to score on another attempt - this week though he should get plenty of opportunities to attack the scoreboard and looks a good bet for the most goals at attractive odds.

Looking longer term this will be the game that launches their season, get the crystal ball out and have a few long term bets on the Saints.

If you anticipate they can go onto make the finals they are as much as $4.50 (Bet365, TAB, Unibet, Luxbet and Sportsbet). They should beat Brisbane and Collingwood next week and then they are back on track to make the finals.

If you want to be super ambitious they are $51 in premiership betting (Bet 365 and Luxbet) which will be value as a long-term trading option if they can string a few wins together.

When these teams met last the Saints won by nearly 10 goals, but it was Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff who had a game high 37 disposals, the next best was Jack Steven with 31.

Rockliff has made a bright start to 2017 with 37 possessions in Round 1 against Gold Coast and 28 in Round 2 against Essendon.

Back Rockliff in the Group A most disposals Group.
