The Saints need to keep winning if they want to play finals footy.

It has been a workmanlike and at times extremely frustrating first half of the season for St Kilda, but with so much having gone wrong the young Saints will take encouragement they are still very much in the hunt for a finals berth.

St Kilda returned to the winners circle last week with a 17-point win over North Melbourne in one of the ugliest games of football ever seen. Both teams were extremely wasteful in front of goal with the positive for the Saints being they were able to find a way to grind out the match.

Veteran Leigh Montagna was back in form collecting 28 disposals with emerging star Seb Ross having a game high 32 touches. Ross has even been discussed as a roughie for the Brownlow Medal where he is still $501.

Gold Coast has done nothing but underachieve since they entered the AFL and after impressive wins against Hawthorn and West Coast they undid all their hard work losing to struggling Carlton in an insipid performance.

Superstar Gary Ablett didn’t handle the heavy tag and was barely sighted, once again, his Suns teammates were nowhere to be seen when Carlton applied physical pressure to him. If they are going to keep their season alive with a win then he needs more help.

Ablett still managed 25 touches last week but he was held scoreless and the reality is that if Gold Coast is going to cause an upset here he needs to be getting 35 or more touches and kick multiple goals. It is unfair how much the Suns rely on him but that is the reality.

We are still not totally sold on St Kilkda but they should find a way to get the win over the Gold Coast.

St Kilda is working with a dysfunctional forward line at the moment so maybe look at specking some roughies in the most goal market.

Seb Ross has had a big month and again looks the logical selection for the most disposals.
