Will the Eagles show they are not pretenders and win in Melbourne?
This is a huge game for both sides who come into the weekend having won seven games and lost six for the season.
Both teams have disappointed this season and the loser of this will face a battle to simply make the finals after both entered the 2017 season as two of the fancied sides in premiership betting.
The Builldogs found a way to win last week against North Melbourne on the back of horrible performances against Sydney and Melbourne, while West Coast were beaten late against a rising Demons side.
The West Coast Eagles have struggled in Melbourne ever since they defeated North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium in Round 1. The Kangaroos look likely to finish amongst the bottom few clubs in the league and since that point the Eagles have been dreadful in Victoria losing to Richmond, Hawthorn and Essendon.
The sides met in Round 8 this year and West Coast prevailed by four points in a low scoring contest.
When Hawthorn shot to prominence to stun the footballing world by winning the flag in 2007 they did not even make the finals the next season and we can see plenty of similarities with the Hawks and the Bulldogs.
The pleasing thing for the Dogs last week was the return to form of popular utility Marcus Bontempelli who had 28 touches and kicked a goal in a performance that will almost guarantee him three Brownlow votes.
Bontempelli was heavily backed to win the award pre-season and he can still be in the hunt with a big finish to the season. Most bookies have him around the $26 mark which is still very appealing.
The Bulldogs are a very short price for a team that is playing as badly as they are. Off the back of that we think it is worth rolling the dice and taking West Coast at the Line (+16.5, $1.90 @ Luxbet) and if you want to be really brave have a small bet on them winning where they are as much as $2.80 with Crownbet and TAB.
Andrew Gaff had 35 disposals when these sides last met and looks a good bet for the most touches.
