The Bombers can’t put a foot wrong if they want to make the finals.
Essendon has shown they are capable of beating any team in the competition on their day but the frustrating thing for punters, and their long suffering supporters, is that they are also capable of losing to any side in the competition. This was made evident by the fact they have lost to the bottom two sides on the ladder this season Carlton and Brisbane.
The Bombers were dreadful in Round 3 against the Blues when they kicked just six goals for the game and lost by 15 points.
Despite hitting a series of speed humps since that point, including a lacklustre performance last week against the Western Bulldogs where they lost by 30 points, they are still in contention to play finals footy.
This should be an easy four points for the Bombers though as they meet a Carlton side that has lost their past six matches and is a big chance to claim a share of the wooden spoon.
We anticipate that the tall forward line of the dons should wreak havoc. Joe Daniher now leads the Coleman Medal race by two goals off the back of a six goal haul last week against the Bulldogs.
Carlton is unlikely to win another game this season as they’ve lost a host of senior players through injury with the club now focused on blooding some youngsters.
Each week the odds on the Bombers have fluctuated wildly on them making the finals. They have looked poised to make the finals on two occasions before losing as favourite the week that followed against Brisbane and then the Western Bulldogs..
Essendon is now $2.25 to make the finals with Sportsbet and $34 to win the premiership at Crownbet.
The Bombers have a series of winnable games coming up and should finish the year strongly and squeak into the finals. As the Bulldogs showed last year winning the flag from seventh spot, anything is then possible.
Joe Daniher kicked a game high six goals last week and should again boot the most.
