Essendon should win to keep their finals hopes alive.

The Bombers best has been great but on the flip side, their bad has simply been awful. That pretty much sums up their season and the position they now find themselves in.

They showed glimpses of both last Saturday night against top of the table and flag favourite Adelaide, eventually losing by 43 points in a scoreboard that was harsh to the Bombers.

After finishing last on the ladder last year the Bombers will keep their finals chances alive with a win against the insipid Gold Coast Suns.

The Bombers will be keen to seize the ascendency early and could be headed for a big win. They should comfortably cover the line 23.5 points and don’t be afraid to back them to win by 40 points or more.

Gold Coast has simply waved the white flag this year and has given up.

The Suns have lost six straight matches and eight of their past nine and last week they lost by 58 points against the bottom placed side in the competition.

They will offer little resistance in the final two weeks of the season and as a result there are good betting opportunities in going against them.

Looking longer term, spearhead forward Joe Daniher looks a tremendous bet at $2.50 with TAB to win the Coleman Medal.

Daniher heads into the round one goal behind leader Josh Kennedy from West Coast, but the Eagles may not win another game this season with matches against the top two sides in Greater Western Sydney and Adelaide over the final two rounds. Essendon, on the other hand, will record comfortable victories against Gold Coast this week and Fremantle in the final round of the season at Etihad Stadium.

The Bombers look a free swing for multi bet players and we also suggest the snapping up $2.20 with Sportsbet on them making the finals. They could be $1.40 after the weekend for the finals should results go as we anticipate.

The game score went over in both these teams most recent games and should happen again.
