Melbourne will secure a finals birth with a win over their old rivals Collingwood.

The Demons should be playing finals no matter what happens in the final round of the season but they can erase the mathematical equation against them with a good victory here.

Melbourne held off a fast finishing St Kilda a fortnight ago before holding off the big improvers of the AFL season in the Brisbane Lions last week.

They come into this game having won their past four matches against Collingwood and is in the luxurious position of having a full squad to choose from.

Collingwood again got off to a terrific start last week against Geelong when leading by more than four goals, but like all season, they couldn’t hit the scoreboard and eventually lost by 11 points.

It is likely that the Pies will tinker with their tactics this week and that will be a big advantage to Melbourne and a leading reason why we anticipate they will win comfortably.

Collingwood will again play Mason Cox in the ruck which will mean a big game coming up for Max Gawn who will dominate the ruck and give the star-studded Demons midfield first crack at the ball.

These two sides played a thrilling game on Queen’s Birthday this year with the Demons prevailing by four points. Christian Petracca was voted the best player on the field that day kicking an equal game high three goals with Jack Watts and collecting 18 disposals.

After a quiet month Petracca will be keen to have a big game and go into the finals full of confidence with many experts identifying him as the x-factor who can help the Demons take the next step.

Melbourne look one of the best bets this weekend and don’t be afraid to have something small on them winning by a big margin should they get on top of the Pies early.

Looking longer term the Demons are still $34 at Luxbet and TAB to go on and record a drought breaking premiership.

Jesse Hogan booted a game high six goals against Brisbane last week and looks a good bet to kick the most.
