Summary: The Lions won the same amount of games in 2018 as they did in their wooden spoon year of 2017 yet moved up three spots on the ladder. However, the win/loss column didn’t show the real improvement the Lions made under Chris Fagan in his second year at the helm. They started the year 0-8 before finishing the year strongly and were far more competitive throughout games, losing five games by single-digit margins. #1 draft pick Cam Rayner showed his star quality, while second year player Alex Witherden was runner-up in the Rising Star and looks to be a future All-Australian.
Full seasons from Charlie Cameron and Harris Andrews will only see the Lions continue their improvement. We don’t think they have quite enough wins in them to secure a finals berth and breal the longest active drought in the league but should be pushing for double-digit wins.
Key stat: The Lions ranked #1 in disposal efficiency (74.3%) in 2018.
