Summary: It looks set to be another long season for supported of the Navy Blue, especially when the tragic news came though about their new co-captain Sam Docherty suffering a second straight ACL injury, essentially ruling him out for the season. The 2017 All-Australian missed the entire two win season last year and will again be forced to watch from the sidelines.
It’s not the only injury the Blues have suffered during the offseason with Matthew Kreuzer, Jarrod Pickett, Liam Jones and new recruit Alex Fasolo all having major to minor setbacks. Thankfully one of those isn’t #1 draft pick Sam Walsh who along with Patrick Cripps will carry much of the load in the midfield this season. Mitch McGovern has big expectations to improve a dysfunctional forward line but all in all it’s going to be another struggle for the Blues who look set to be around the four or five win mark in 2019.
Key stat: Carlton conceded the most points against per match (103.7) in 2018 and averaged the second least (61.5) for.
Round 1: Carlton vs. Richmond – MCG – Friday March 23, 07:20 PM
