Sydney v Melbourne - SCG - 7:20 PM

Alarm bells are ringing loudly for Melbourne after their 0-3 start to the 2019 season and they now travel north to take on the Sydney Swans at the SCG on Thursday night.

If the Demons are to avoid their first 0-4 start since the dark days of 2012 they will need to overcome a winless stretch against the Swans which dates back two years further (seven straight losses). Their most recent matchup came at the MCG during Round 21 last season, which saw Sydney triumph 87-78 in what proved to be Jesse Hogan’s final appearance for Melbourne. Without Hogan, the Demons have looked lost going forward throughout the opening three rounds, seeing them score from just 30.0% of their entries inside 50, as opposed to 45.9% during 2018. However, the opposition this week is hardly menacing; Sydney only claimed its first victory of 2019 by squeaking past Carlton by 19-points last week where they lost Jarrad McVeigh and Will Hayward to injury and won’t be available for this crucial clash. However, the Swans still have Lance Franklin, who incredibly has never lost to a Melbourne team in his career (15-0).

Key Stat: Sydney has failed to cover the line in its last seven night matches.
