Collingwood v Melbourne - MCG - 3:20pm

Collingwood head into Monday’s annual Queen’s Birthday clash against Melbourne as hot favourites despite a shock loss to Fremantle last week, which snapped a seven-game winning streak.

Melbourne coughed up a 31-point second half lead against Adelaide in Darwin last week to fall to 3-8 on the season, which essentially has ended any hope of back-to-back finals appearances. While the Demons may now have one eye on 2020, this is their biggest home and away match of the season and will be eager to deliver an upset and give their fans something to cheer about on what’s otherwise been a disastrous season.

Collingwood were 42-point winners in the corresponding match last year after starting as underdogs, making it three wins from the last five for the outsiders in this fixture, but will start favourites for the 12th time this season on Monday. The battle between the two premier ruckmen in the competition will be a fascinating one and will go a long way to deciding who will win the match. Both men were named in last year’s All Australian team with Gawn getting the starting nod, but it’s Grundy who would be slightly shading the Melbourne big man so far in 2019 as he and the Pies look for another scalp.

Key Stat: Melbourne has a 5-17 W/L record as an away team, after an interstate match from 2010 onwards.
