AFL Round 13: Essendon v Hawthorn Preview & Betting Tips
Coming off their respective byes, Hawthorn and Essendon meet at Marvel Stadium desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight.
Essendon v Hawthorn - Marvel Stadium - 7:50pm
A massive game in the context of the season for both clubs as Essendon and Hawthorn square off at the Marvel Stadium on Friday night. Both are coming off their bye and enter this game with a 5-6 record and will be desperately trying to avoid slipping further away from parity and the top eight.
The Hawks have been consistently inconsistent this season and are yet to string two consecutive wins together. They’re last outing before the bye was against the Lions where they fell by 19-points despite racing out to a five goal lead in the first quarter and are due for a response against their great rivals.
The Bombers got back on the winners list with a 41-point victory over Carlton, but again struggled to hit the scoreboard, failing to surpass 12 goals for the 6th consecutive week, which has them ranked 14th in the league for points scored.
However, both teams have been stout in defence, ranking in the top seven respectively, which could mean we’re in for a low-scoring dour affair with so much on the line.
Key Stat: Essendon has a 9-0 line record as a home team, coming off nine or more days rest from 2012 onwards.
Best bet: Hawthorn 1-39
Value bet: Hawthorn +5.5/Under 160.5
