West Coast v Essendon - Optus Stadium - 8:10pm

Returning to action after its bye in Round 13, West Coast will host Essendon at Optus Stadium on Thursday night. The Eagles entered the break on the back foot after falling by 45-points to the Swans in Sydney, continuing their hoodoo at the SCG.

The absence of skipper Shannon Hurn and Elliot Yeo were both felt heavily in that contest, however, Hurn is a likely starter, while Yeo likely to miss again. Furthermore, Eagles fans will be overjoyed to hear Nic Naitanui is returning from his latest ACL injury in the WAFL this weekend.

Essendon will make the trip west on the back of successive wins, having downed Hawthorn by 19-points last Friday. When the ball is bounced on Thursday night it will almost exactly a year to the day when Essendon upset West Coast 80-52 at this venue.

That result marked the Eagles’ lowest ever score at Optus Stadium and although the Bombers will again be underdogs in 2019, they may back themselves to similarly clamp down on their opposition given they have conceded just 66.1 points on average across their last nine matches.

Key Stat: Essendon has covered the line in each of its last four interstate night matches as an underdog.

Tip: Essendon

Best bet: Essendon +19.5

Value bet: Essendon 1-39
