Richmond v GWS - MCG- 1:10pm
Flying up the ladder after a huge victory over the Suns, Richmond will attempt to continue its rise by overtaking GWS at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers were unstoppable during their 92-point demolition victory and have now won back-to-back matches since regaining a number of key players, having also downed the Saints in Round 15. Richmond is expected to be further boosted by the return of the league’s reigning Coleman medallist, Jack Riewoldt, who hasn’t featured since Round 6.
Riewoldt was also unavailable when the Giants defeated the Tigers by 49-points back in Round 3. However, this time around it could be GWS which has been bitten by the injury bug, with Josh Kelly ruled out due to a calf complaint to join a list of quality players on the sidelines. With that being said, Lachie Whitfield will return to aid the Giants’ quest to both avoid a fourth loss in five matches and defeat Richmond in a fixture away from Giants Stadium for the first time in their history.
Key Stat: Richmond has won each of its last 15 day matches at the MCG.
Best bet: Richmond 1-39
Value bet: Richmond 40+
Western Bulldogs v Melbourne - Marvel Stadium- 3:20pm
Having moved into the September conversation through consecutive upset victories, the Western Bulldogs will now attempt to get the job done as favourites when they host Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.
The Bulldogs were defensively strong during their victories over the Power and Cats, conceding a total of just 96 points across the two results, a far cry from the 91.0 they had conceded on average in their first 13 matches of 2019.
The Demons could be similarly susceptible to a Bulldogs shutdown given they rank 15th for attack this season despite downing the Blues 105-100 last weekend. That encounter came at a huge cost to the already hobbled lineup, with both Marty Hore and six-goal star Tom McDonald set for lengthy stints on the sidelines. As such, the Dogs could be set to end a three-match losing streak against the Demons and square their season record at 8-8.
Key Stat: Each of the Western Bulldogs' last six Sunday matches at Marvel Stadium have gone UNDER the total match points line.
Tip: Western Bulldogs
Best bet: Under 168.5 total match points
Value bet: Western Bulldogs -9.5/Under 168.5 points
Port Adelaide v Brisbane - Adelaide Oval - 4:40pm
After moving into the top four, Brisbane will look to solidify that position and defeat Port Adelaide for the second time this season when they meet at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
The Lions are two games clear of their opponents who sit 7th on the ladder with an 8-7 record thanks to their 57-point victory over the Crows in the Showdown last week. That result continued the Power’s inconsistent season where they haven’t won consecutive matches since Round 5-6.
On the other hand, the Lions have won three straight since their bye to legitimise their finals and potentially premiership credentials. Their brilliant 20-point win over GWS at Giants Stadium last week proved to the competition they can win interstate and will further enhance that reputation if they were to defeat the Power in Adelaide, where they haven’t won since 2012. The Power should regain former skipper Travis Boak after he was a late withdrawal last week, while Paddy Ryder has also been included in an extended squad. The Lions have lost Eric Hipwood and Luke Hodge, but do regain the in form Oscar McInerney.
Key Stat: Port Adelaide has a 6-2 W/L record at the Adelaide Oval after a win from 2018 onwards.
Tip: Port Adelaide
Best bet: Port Adelaide 1-39
Value bet: Port Adelaide -11.5/Over 164.5
