Collingwood v Richmond - MCG - 7:50pm

A blockbuster at the ‘G on Friday night with top-four implications as 4th meets 5th in a fixture that could ultimately decide who enters September with the double chance.

The Tigers have flown back into top-four contention in recent weeks through four straight victories, culminating in a 38-point triumph over the Power at this venue last Saturday during which Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch each booted three majors. That result continued a trend which has seen 23 of Richmond’s last 24 matches at the MCG won by the favourite. However, that one upset was Collingwood’s monumental 97-58 Preliminary Final victory last season.

The Magpies have since backed up that result by defeating the Tigers by 44-points in Round 2. Even so, Collingwood’s current form doesn’t instil confidence in a repeat occurring; the Magpies have now lost three of their last four outings after suffering a crushing 47-point defeat to the Giants in Sydney during Round 18, but that one win came when they were big outsiders in Perth a fortnight ago, a tag they will again carry into Friday night.

Key Stat: Collingwood has won its last four Friday night matches when starting as an underdog.
