AFL Round 19: Saturday Night Match Previews & Betting Tips
St Kilda can make it back-to-back wins under Brett Ratten when they face the Dees at Marvel while Port Adelaide will look to get back on track at home against the Giants.
St Kilda v Melbourne - Marvel Stadium - 7:25pm
An intriguing clash on Saturday night as two of the big underachievers of the season meet at Marvel Stadium.
St Kilda who have recorded two more wins than Melbourne have already discarded coach Alan Richardson and as has been the case already twice this season with caretaker coaches, got an immediate response with a blistering opening quarter that was the catalyst in their 27-point triumph over the Bulldogs in Brett Rattan’s first game in charge.
Melbourne too turned in a far more inspiring performance in Round 18 and if not for wayward kicking, could have replicated that result against the top-four-bound Eagles in Alice Springs, finishing that 91-78 loss with 23 scoring shots to 21. It proved a far more lopsided result when these clubs met in Round 5, as St Kilda triumphed 95-55 at the MCG, however, given four of Melbourne’s last five matches have been decided by a margin of under 15 points, Saturday’s encounter could go down to the wire.
Key Stat: St Kilda has lost its last 11 Saturday night matches.
Best bet: Either team under 15.5
Value bet: Melbourne -3.5/Under 168.5
Port Adelaide v GWS - Adelaide Oval - 7:40pm
Desperate for victory in order to keep the September candle burning, Port Adelaide will welcome a revitalised GWS side to the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
The Power enter Round 19 a win and substantial percentage outside the top eight, having most recently fallen by 38-points to Richmond at the MCG – their third loss in four matches.
Elsewhere, the Giants rediscovered their mojo by demolishing the Magpies by 47-points at home to end a troubling three-match losing run. GWS has replicated that form in recent matchups against Port Adelaide, winning each of their last four head-to-head encounters by an average margin of 39.5 points. Importantly, two of those wins came at this venue and when considering the Power harbour an underwhelming 3-4 record from their last seven matches as the home team, the visiting Giants seem in a strong position to continue their stranglehold over this matchup.
Key Stat: The last five matches at the Adelaide Oval have been won by the underdogs.
Best bet: GWS 1-39
Value bet GWS 40
