AFL Round 20: Saturday Night Match Previews & Betting Tips
Richmond will continue their march towards another top four finish when they face the struggling Dees at the MCG, while Adelaide will be desperate to snap a poor run of form when they host an undefeated Brett Rattan-led Saints.
Richmond v Melbourne - MCG - 7:25pm
Back into the top four after a dominant victory over Collingwood, Richmond will attempt to continue its winning form and push for a top-two spot when they face the 17th-placed Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday night.
That 32-point triumph over the Magpies moved the Tigers’ winning streak to five matches, throughout which only the Giants (27 points) have managed to keep the margin under five goals.
That certainly doesn’t provide positive reading for the Demons, who have now lost eight of their last 10 matches after falling by 19-points to the Saints, despite starting that match as favourites and are now a league-worst 3-4 when favourites this season.
That stretch has seen the continuation of Melbourne’s defensive struggles, with the side conceding an average of 91.6 points in 2019. Much like they did during an 85-42 victory over the Demons on ANZAC Day Eve, the Tigers look set to take advantage of those shortcomings when considering they have averaged 109.2 points throughout their active winning streak.
Key Stat: Richmond has won nine consecutive Saturday matches at the MCG
Best bet: Richmond -26.5
Value bet: Richmond -26.5/Over 162.5
Adelaide v St Kilda - Adelaide Oval - 7:40pm
In crisis after a dismal display last weekend, Adelaide will be desperate to return to the winners' list when St Kilda visits the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
The Crows find themselves clinging to eighth spot by percentage alone after they were toppled by the Blues at the MCG last weekend.
That 27-point loss was the fourth in five weeks the Crow, with their solitary victory in that stretch coming against the last-placed Suns.
Meanwhile, the Saints have started trending upwards in the aftermath of Alan Richardson stepping down as coach, upsetting both the Bulldogs and Demons at Marvel Stadium in succession.
It was the first time in 12 months that St Kilda had recorded triple figures and have now done it in back-to-back weeks to suggest they’re playing with more freedom under Rattan.
Even so, continuing that form on the road should be a huge challenge given they have only defeated the Suns from their six matches outside of Melbourne this season.
Additionally, Adelaide downed St Kilda by 31-points in their previous meeting at Marvel Stadium in Round 6 this season and nine straight against the Saints.
Key Stat: Adelaide has won nine consecutive Round 20 matches
Best bet: Adelaide 1-39
Value bet: Adelaide -18.5/Under 161.5
