Collingwood v Essendon - MCG - 7:50pm

Both September bound, Collingwood and Essendon will play the first of what could potentially be a double-header when they face off at the MCG on Friday night. If the Magpies win and other results fall the way they’re expected to, it will indeed be these fierce rivals who meet in the first week of September in a huge elimination final.

It remains to be seen how much this matchup would have a bearing on that potential encounter when considering Essendon could be without some key personnel on Friday evening. David Zaharakis, Tom Bellchambers and Cale Hooker are all a chance to be unavailable, while skipper Dyson Heppell and any other sore Bombers may be held out considering they are locked in to finish either 7th or 8th.

Comparatively, it is all on the line for the Magpies, with the potential of a top-four finish still alive if the Tigers or Eagles are to lose. The Magpies will be looking to extend their winning streak against the Bombers to four and put the pressure back on the aforementioned teams.

Key Stat: Essendon has lost 11 of its last 13 matches at the MCG on a Friday
