Richmond v Geelong - MCG - 7:50pm

Looking to right the wrongs of last season, Richmond will host Geelong at the MCG on Friday night as each team looks to be the first to book their spot in this year’s AFL Grand Final.

If Geelong is to upset Richmond on the penultimate weekend of the season, they will have to do it without their All Australian key forward Tom Hawkins who was suspended for one match after striking Will Schofield in Geelong’s 20-point victory over West Coast in their semifinal last Friday. Hawkins kicked four goals when Geelong demolished an injury-stricken Richmond lineup 104-37 during Round 12, although it was the winning side’s defence which proved the true dominant force on that night.

This time around it could be Geelong which is on the end of a defensive masterclass; Richmond has conceded more than 70 points just once in its last 10 matches – each of which resulted in victory. That record was extended by the Tigers’ 112-65 triumph over the Lions prior to their week off. Dustin Martin booted six goals during that win and may cause Geelong’s backline some sleepless nights ahead of Friday night.

Key Stat: Richmond has won each of its last eight matches in Melbourne by a margin of 1-39 points.
