2019 AFL Grand Final: Richmond v GWS Preview & Betting Tips
Can Richmond bury last year’s demons and lift the cup for the second time in three years or will it be the Giants claiming their maiden AFL premiership in just their 8th season?
Richmond v GWS - MCG - 2:30pm
Vying for the ultimate glory on the last Saturday in September, Richmond and GWS will square off in the 2019 AFL Grand Final. For different reasons, both Richmond and GWS were impressive in their respective preliminary final victories over Geelong and Collingwood last weekend.
For the Tigers, it was a dominant second half which saw them storm past the Cats, as they overcame a 21-point deficit at the main break to run out 85-66 winners.
Comparatively, the Giants’ tense four-point victory was another example of the incredible desire within their playing group, which not only withstood Collingwood’s fierce comeback but also overcame the absence of Lachie Whitfield and Toby Greene, as well as a limited Phil Davis who suffered multiple injuries during Saturday’s win.
While Toby Greene will certainly return from suspension on Saturday, Lachie Whitfield and Stephen Coniglio’s returns are much more up in the air, although both will be pressing hard for selection. Co-captain Davis’ status could be the most crucial, as GWS attempts to quell the influence of Tom Lynch, who booted five goals against Geelong and again shapes as the match-winner for the warm favourites.
• The home team has won each of the last nine matches between Richmond and GWS.
