The 13x all star and 3x champion has copped his fair share of flak from supporters and pundits around the league for his resting days throughout the season.
Look at LeBron James now. He’s had arguably the best post season he’s ever had in his 14th season. That’s not normal! This guy has played enough playoff games to equal an extra two seasons!
The Cavaliers swept their first two rounds against the Indiana Pacers and the Toronto Raptors and only dropped one game against the Celtics. This shouldn’t be happening. Not only has LeBron made the Eastern playoffs boring, but his big 3 partners in crime, Kyrie and Kevin haven’t helped much either.
Yes the Warriors are doing the same to the West, but they’re doing it as a collective. In the long run you want to back a team over an individual but taking one piece out of the Warriors would pale in comparison to what would happen if you take LeBron out of the Cavaliers.
When you make it to the penultimate round of such a high quality league’s playoff and your opposition (Demar Derozan) is saying, “We would’ve won if we had LeBron”, you know that is a mentally broken man. LeBron does that. He’s so good that many players just can’t handle it.
We know the Golden State Warriors won the series. We know they had emphatic victories in Games 1, 2 and 4 but don’t for a second think that LeBron’s performances were the reason why.
Throughout the series with LeBron on the court, the Cavaliers outscored the Warriors by 1.1 points per 100 possessions. With LeBron off the court, the Warriors outscored the Cavaliers by 47.9 points per 100 possessions.
He’s also the only player to have ever averaged a triple double in the playoffs.
So what will the NBA do now that LeBron has made it clear he will be resting every year from now on? LeBron has just found a way to not only extend his career but also amplify his playoff performances to 10’s by taking breaks throughout the season.
Will Adam Silver impose a fine on LeBron? LeBron isn’t worried about money. Will Adam Silver suspend LeBron James? LeBron wants the rest anyway, so it wouldn’t faze him.
LeBron wont be changing anytime soon. He’s uncovered the elixir to extending his illustrious career. The only thing LeBron has in front of him is Michael Jordan’s shadow and an all-time Golden State Warriors team.
Many argue that LeBron is one or two rings away from surpassing MJ. Whatever your opinion, The man is clearly the best player alive today, in the top 2 best players ever and on his way to forging his own unbeatable records in the process.
