Main Event: Georges St Pierre vs. Michael Bisping
The Main event of UFC 217 promises to be an interesting match-up of styles and personalities.
GSP, a known wrestler is coming back after a 4-year lay off from the sport. His opponent, Michael Bisping has one of the loudest voices in the UFC and isn’t shy of giving verbal abuse wherever he can.
Bisping, the striker is the current holder of the Middleweight title after he defeated Rockhold and defended his belt against Dan Henderson.
Some say Bisping has a phoney title because Luke Rockhold was out drinking the night before the fight, didn’t take his training seriously and was talking selfies within a club at 2am the morning of the fight.
For GSP to make an impact in this one he needs to have refined his ground game. Now we know he’s usually good with this but after four years away from the sport, a lot could have changed.
Bisping the better striker needs to ensure his takedown defence is on point. If he keeps this fight upright he should be able to outscore GSP
It’s really hard to overlook GSP’s time away from the sport. I don’t think Bisping is a strong fighter compared to a lot of other fighters but even he should be able to dispatch a washed up GSP in this encounter.
Best Bet: Michael Bisping
Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Rose Namajunas
Joanna J, now known as JJ because of how incredibly difficult it is to spell her name is without a doubt one of the greatest female fighters this sport has seen.
JJ is set to break Rousey’s record for title defences. This will be motivating her in ways we haven’t seen before. With that said, JJ fights at an absurd pace which usually throws off her opponents.
For Namajunas to be a factor in this bout she needs to keep her composure and not throw silly shots. In saying that, Namajunas needs to hang with JJ and aim for those takedowns. JJ is susceptible when on the ground as she prefers to stand and trade,
Best Bet: Joanna Jedrzejczyk by KO
Cody Garbrandt vs. TJ Dillashaw
This fight promises to be a cracker and will likely end up as fight of the night. These blokes hate each other with a burning passion. These fighters used to be training partners until Dillashaw left Team Alpha Male.
Garbrandt’s victory over Dominick Cruz has catapulted the 26 year old to stardom as he looks to capitalise on his momentum with a win over Dillashaw.
Dillashaw likes to throw more shots and be the aggressor whilst Garbrandt has a more superior strike defence. When it comes to the ground game it looks as though Garbrandt has the upper hand.
Overall Dillashaw can arguably be seen as having the bigger heart but Garbrandt is definitely the smarter more patient fighter.
Every minute these fighters spend in the octagon together is good viewing. I really hope this goes the distance.
Best Bet: Cody Garbrandt by Decision
