After India scraped over the line against Bangladesh, it’s left Australia needing a win to sustain any chance of progressing out the group. We shouldn’t be in this situation, the boys should’ve got the job done against the Kiwi’s. We’ve been less than convincing in the two games we’ve played, however luckily for us we play a team who’ve just come of the back of two losses.
If Pakistan lose they are out of the competition, even if they win it’s going to be difficult for them to qualify. This give me some confidence heading into tonight’s match, however we’ve only won 5 out of the 13 games we’ve played against Pakistan. At the beginning of the World Cup I had doubts about Pakistan’s batting, they soon shut me up when posting 201 in their first game, since then they’ve only posted 118 and 158. They rely heavily on a couple of batsmen, and the rest don’t look up to the job and don’t even look like they can score quickly. There isn’t much to say about their bowling, Australia’s batsman won’t lose any sleep, if we can manage Afridi we should be able to post a good total.
We are still uncertain what our best team is which is a huge concern in the middle of a World Cup, in my eyes they need to get Finch in and play Hazlewood. I think we’ll get more out of playing a specialist batsman or bowler and sacrifice Marsh. One positive from the last game was the performance of Zampa, it was great to see him joining the party and taking three wickets.
Pakistan spinners might be able to cause us a few problems but we’re always going to score at a quick rate and we’ve got enough depth to recover from a few quick wickets. The Aussies will win this game at $1.45 and keep their finals hopes alive.
Usman Khawaja will love tucking into the Pakistan seamers, I can’t see Amir, Irfan or Sami causing him any problems at all. As I’ve mentioned before he’s been in great touch all summer, he’s got the game to be effective in any format and condition. He’s been the only bright light in the Australians batting, scoring 38 and 58. In his form, the $4 on offer for him to be Top Aussie Batsman is great value.

Shane Watson has been very effective with the ball in this year’s competition, on both occasions he’s completed the four overs and gone at a decent rate. The bookies still price him at $6.5 for top Aussie bowler which is real value.
