Ashes: Fifth Test
Off a momentum halting 4th match draw, the Aussies still seem hungrier than a pack of wolves at a New Year’s barbeque. With three wins out of four games the Aussies are looking to send the Poms packing in an emphatic fashion.
Word from Sydney is that Mitchell Starc is slated to come into the fray making a tough day even harder for the Poms. Steve Smith looks like a man possessed as he’s hitting England to all corners of the country. Ricky Ponting’s pre-series prediction of 4-0 is looking mighty juicy right about now.
With Starc’s return from injury leaving question marks on his performance and all eyes on Lyon, I’ll be tipping Hazlewood to bring the heat on his home deck.
Tip: Most Wickets Taken: Josh Hazlewood
The Magic Millions, widely renown as the premier racehorse sale and one of the premier races in Australia comes around once again in January. After Houtzen’s blitzing win last year at short odds could we be due for a roughie to take out the top spot?
I for one prefer some value in my fillies. That filly is Meryl. Meryl is aiming to become the first horse to win the McLachlan Magic Millions Classic double. She was a star in preseason trials and after a well-deserved break, looks set to burst back onto the scene in a big way.
Sydney once again plays host to another major sporting event taking place in January. The Sydney Sevens!
The South African’s come into this tournament as the red hot favourite with their compliment looking to get some silverware which has largely evaded them in the last decade.
The right balance of value and likelihood has to lie with the Fijians though. Their renown pace and power make them a match-up nightmare for any team.
The 2016 Olympic Games Gold medal side has stiff competition in the Kiwi’s, but they’ve toppled tougher opponents in the past.
Osea Kolinisau leads his side to victory in Sydney.
Triple J Hottest 100
Not a hot betting commodity in your daddy’s day, but in modern times any red-blooded Aussie who loves his Triple J is likely looking to get some coin on for this magnificent contest.
Let me tell you these facts. #1 there are so many cracker songs in this year’s countdown it is genuinely hard to choose a winner. #2 the favourite, by the time the announcement is due to be made comes off nine times out of 10.
With that said, if you’re after value saddle up on Khalid – Young, dumb and broke. If you’re after a surer thing, it’s hard to look past old mate Kendrick Lamar’s – Humble.
Tip: Khalid – Young dumb and broke
Australian Open Final
Australia’s pride and joy in the month of January sees another stellar slate of talent grace the courts in Melbourne for the first of the four Grand Slams.
Nadal, Federer, Murray and Djokovic will all be in contention and will have fans likely glued to their TV sets. Dark horses such as Dimitrov, Zverev and our very own Nick Kyrgios will also be suiting up for the event.
Roger has put his claim forward as the GOAT and the betting markets are respecting his claim. With age not on Nadal or Federer’s side and injury threating Murray’s future performances there’s some decent value in the Joker’s pocket. Djokovic has a great chance to return to his former glory as the #1 male in the tennis world.
Tip: Novak Djokovic
