Head to Head
After mounting a five game win-streak that propelled them into the competition’s top four, the Hurricanes finally tasted defeat this week when the Strikers defeated them by 11 runs at the Adelaide Oval. Another tough away game now awaits in the Perth Scorchers who are already through to the semi finals with a 6-2 record. Although it is tempting to back the Canes given their depth of batting talent, the Scorchers have won five straight against Hobart dating back to 2014 and haven’t been beaten at home this season.
Key stat: Over 330 runs have been scored in two of the three BBL matches held in Perth this year.
Ben McDermott has played a fine supporting role this season, backing up key man D’arcy Short with some handy runs. In fact, the 23-year old has only been dismissed once in single figures this season and has compiled four 30+ totals. Although it’s tough to back against Short in this market, the value on McDermott is certainly worth considering. For the home side, it is tough to ignore the $5+ odds on Ashton Turner. The explosive batsman has had twin failures leading into this game, but in his past five innings on home soil, has banked totals of 70, 45, 0, 22 and 101 (all formats).
Key stat: Ben McDermott has scored 30+ in seven of his 15 BBL matches and now averages 34.50 in T20 cricket.
