England cantered to another ODI victory over the Aussies on Friday night, taking it to five wins in their last six games against Australia (ODI only). Steve Smith’s side now have it all to do in Sydney if they are to keep the series alive heading into the final two matches in Adelaide and Perth. The Australians do start favourite, but the poms at very generous odds of $2.30 is a very, very tempting proposition.
3 KEY POINTS
- ENGLAND has won nine of their last 10 matches
- AUSTRALIA has lost seven of their last eight contested ODIs.
- ENGLAND won their last match at the SCG (vs. Afganistan – 2015)
Aaron Finch notched up his second consecutive century at the Gabba, and there’ll be plenty out there backing the Victorian to make it three in Sydney. In his last five innings, the right-hand bat has scored 107, 106, 2, 43 and 51 (all compeitions). At just under $4 to post the highest score, he should be considered. Another worthy of mention is Travis Head who has slipped out beyond $7. The Adelaide product may have missed out so far in this series, but prior to being called up for international duty, had been in good form, banking scores of 53, 12 and 44 in the Big Bash.
For England, Joe Root is very tough to look past. The Yorkshireman has scored 46* 91*, 83, 58*, 61 and 20 across his last five innings, and in ODI’s has lifted his average to 51.71. If you’re considering those at longer odds, Sam Billings may be the way to go given his familiarity with the SCG turf.
High Bat: Joe Root (Eng.)
Wickets: Mark Wood (Eng.)
