The Adelaide Strikers host the Melbourne Renegades this Friday in a match many believe will go down to the wire. Both franchises will be missing key personnel with Adelaide perhaps the hardest hit on this front given the absence of star batsman Alex Carey and Travis Head who are both required for the international T20 series. Although Melbourne won’t have the services of Aaron Finch or Brad Hodge to call on, key veteran Cameron White returns from his stint in the canary yellow and will assume the captaincy.
Adding further weight to the argument we’re in for a nail-biter is the mixed H2H record between the teams (4-3 in Adelaide’s favour) and the fact both teams enter this match with indifferent BBL form (2-2 apiece across their last four). That said, Jason Gillespie’s team did win the only meeting between the sides this season, and have taken out all four of their matches on the Adelaide Oval in BBL|07. In that respect, we’re tipping the home side, but expect the Renegades to put in a spirited showing in what will be their first semi-final appearance since the 2012/13 season.
Key stat: Adelaide has scored 165+ runs in each of their last four matches with the Renegades.
The aforementioned Cameron White is the favourite to score the most runs for the Renegades, however, Marcus Harris is well worth considering at $4.00 odds. Despite only lining up twice against the Strikers in Renegades colours, the left-hand bat is the third highest scorer (110 runs) in all matches between the teams. Furthermore, the opener has found his groove during the back end of the season racking up totals of 42, 64, 25, 0 and 48 across his last five innings. For the Strikers, Colin Ingram’s claims are hard to ignore after his impressive 68 against the Renegades on January 22.
Key stat: In his 10 matches this season, Colin Ingram has scored 262 runs (ninth most in BBL|07) from only 191 balls.
Tip: Strikers to win with Marcus Harris to score 25+
