Adelaide United v Newcastle Jets - Sunday 17:00, Fox Sports 4
Adelaide’s win at Brisbane means it three in a row for Guillermo Amor’s side and they’re now unbeaten in eight to surge up the table, having been bottom of the league and winless after eight games. The Jets, meanwhile have gone in the opposite direction after a promising first eight games of the season that left them in sixth, since losing six of their last eight including a 6-1 pummelling at Perth last weekend.
Adelaide have scored 10 goals in their last three whilst conceding just four in their last eight to make them the form team in the division. They’ve won their last four at home and have lost just once at the Hindmarsh Stadium all season, against City. Their record against bottom-three sides since the start of last season is an impressive W6-D1-L0 with four of these six wins by at least two goals, though they only led at the break in three.
On a positive note for the Jets, they have managed to score four goals in their last two games, having failed to score in six prior to that. They are still comfortably the league’s lowest scorers with just 13 goals in their 16 games so far and they’ve also failed to score in their last four on the road, but haven’t conceded more than twice in any of these games and as a result each saw fewer than three goals. Given Adelaide’s excellent form they look set to move up into the top half and the Jets’ record at such teams since the start of last season is W2-D2-L8 as they failed to score in seven of these games and in six of the eight defeats.
Adelaide won this fixture 7-0 last season and we expect them to win convincingly in this one as well. Adelaide have kept a clean sheet in three of their last five at home while the Jets have failed to score in their last four on the road and as a result the win to nil looks a solid bet in this one.
