Allen staring down Group One success
Orson Allen (2) was brilliant in winning the Cranbourne Cup last week. He flew the lids and gave nothing else a chance. If he leads again I doubt anything can run him down. Poke The Bear (4) is a huge threat but box four is just about the worst box draw for him as he isn’t brilliant away. My Redeemer (8) could fly across from the outside and if he is up on the speed could simply outstay the opposition.
The Key Runners:
2. Orson Allen – C Grenfell: $2:
Pinged the lids to lead throughout last Saturday in the Cranbourne Cup. If he finds the top again he will be extremely hard to run down. Is a Group Two and Three winner.
4. Poke The Bear – S.Thompson: $3:
The champ had a chequered passage last week in the Cranbourne Cup and getting the squeezebox here doesn’t’ help. He isn’t the best beginner but if he gets clear air is definitely capable of running down the leaders.
5. Hasten Slowly – A Langton: $12:
The Brisbane Cup winner has been thereabouts of last and represents value in this race. Box five is awkward but he has won twice from here previously. A clean getaway early is vital and if he finds the rails, watch for him to storm home.
8. My Redeemer – D.Geall: $5:
TAB Melbourne Cup winner which is drawn ideally in the outside box. The son of Fernando Bale has won more races from box 8 (five times) than anywhere else in his career. Begins quickly and if he can get across, he will be extremely hard to beat.
6. Barooga Brett – B. Ennis: $4:
Track specialist with seven wins from 11 starts here over the distance. Is a four-time winner from box six but he needs to find the inside if he is to figure in the finish. Can’t see him doing work and being able to beat these.
It is hard to go past Orson Allen but we have to take skinny odds about him.
Hasten Slowly represents the value and is worth a sneaky each-way bet.
