Fine weather around Sydney at the moment. I expect the track to start in the soft range. The rail is in the true position.

Race 1 11:35am HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP 1400m
MORTON’S FORK backs up quickly and finally gets out to 1400. His first-up run showed that he wanted it and I feel as if they have targeted this race third up on the quick backup and with blinkers on for the first time.
LORD MACAU won well first up and should be fitter for that effort here. He fought on well when challenged and looks as if he will take up the speed yet again and prove tough to run down.
SUGAR BELLA was a dominant winner against older horses on debut. There was a lot of money for her that day and she backed that up with a brilliant win. The step up to 1400 looks ideal and she should get a good run from the gate.
HARPER’S CHOICE getting out to 1400 will suit here as he was left flat footed when having to sprint over the shorter distance. He gets to his home track for the first time in his career and should be improved.
SELECTIONS: No 1 MORTON’S FORK, No 2 Lord Macau, No 11 Sugar Bella, No 7 Harper’s Choice
Value Runner: Sugar Bella
Race 2 12:10pm #THERACES HANDICAP 1500m
DUBAIINSTYLE gets one more chance here courtesy of a weight swing in his favour. He is going to get conditions to suit him again and has his chance to win here.
SUBORIC was an amazing winner last start as he got flattened twice in the run with 61kgs and still managed to pick himself up and win the race in what was a superb effort. He meets the same sort of field here and has to be given a chance yet again.
DARK EYES out to the 1500 should suit. He was left a little flat footed last start over the shorter trip. Getting out to a bigger track such as Rosehill should help him too.
LOUIE SEE KAY was a big winner last start at Kembla, he looked in a lot of trouble at the turn and managed to pick himself up for what was a big win. He gets a good weight drop here and looks to be on an upward spiral.
SELECTIONS: No 9 DUBAIINSTYLE, No 1 Suboric, No 4 Dark Eyes, No 5 Louie See Kay
Value Runner: Louie See Kay
Race 3 12:45pm TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1200m
BARKSDALE was very good at Canberra on a day where it was impossible to make ground and leaders on the day have since failed. He drops 4kgs for that effort, is proven to be adept in soft going and gets a chance here.
SNIPPS PARADE hasn’t quite lived up to expectations this preparation. He has started short in the market in all four runs. He should handle the conditions given his breeding and gets another chance here.
DEALS AND DIAMONDS was a big winner at Canberra upon resumption. He sat off the speed on a day when leaders dominated so the win has to be given even more credit. He must have a load of ability to be a rising seven year old with only four starts to his name and the booking of Berry shows stable confidence as Dale has proven to be a master of the Highway.
STAR SHAFT gets his chance to breakthrough for the first time this preparation. His four runs have been full of merit this time in and although he has the big weight he has his chance.
SELECTIONS: No 10 BARKSDALE, No 9 Snipps Parade, No 4 Deals and Diamonds, No 1 Star Shaft
Value Runner: Barksdale
Race 4 1:20pm SCHWEPPES HANDICAP 2000m
THURSTON going up in trip looks to suit here. He was a touch flatfooted last start when dropping back from 1800-1500 and back to 2000 here looks ideal for him as he looks to get conditions to suit.
ESTEBEN on the quick back up is an interesting one here. He had been just dominant in two wins at Newcastle over 2000m and jumps quickly in grade to Saturday level. This looks to be a good race for him to contest given that he is flying.
SONG AND LAUGHTER produced a tough effort last start and ran on well in a race that was dominated by on-pacers. The soft tracks are conducive for her best efforts and she has a chance yet again.
ARTABAI was beaten by the bias last start at Ipswich. He does rise in weight here, but the form out of that race has stood up quite well and he needs to be considered.
SELECTIONS: 5 THURSTON, No 8 Esteben, No 3 Song and Laughter, No 1 Artabai
Value Runner: Song and Laughter
Race 5 1:55pm TAB REWARDS HANDICAP 1500m
OBSIDEAN made up very good ground last start in a race that wasn’t run to suit. He stays at the 1500 here and has drawn a much better gate and third up from a spell he should be ready to strike.
COURTZA KING should be well suited in stepping up to the 1500 here after running on well last start. He would ideally want it a bit better, but his last start performance suggested he was back to his form of old and has to be considered.
CONSIGN hit the line well last start in the same race as Obsidean. He has been threatening to break through at his last few runs and ideally he would like it drier than it currently is, but with the booking of Avdulla he has a chance.
FRANCESCO won a good race at midweek level last start and seems to be back to his best. It was a tough win that day and it was good to see some adaptability in his racing style as he ploughed through the heavy ground. With the weight drop he has to be considered.
SELECTIONS: No 10 OBSIDEAN, No 8 Courtza King, No 1 Consign, No 9 Francesco
Value Runner: Consign
Race 6 2:35pm WINTER STAKES 1400m
TALES OF GRIMM bounced back to some of his best form last start with a strong win. He had threatened to do this in a few runs this preparation. He has drawn wide but I expect Berry to be proactive from the gate and take up a position. He has proven to get through soft going and gets similar conditions here.
OXFORD POET should be ready to go here third up from a spell. He has produced two really good efforts this time in and the step up to 1400 is a good one. He should control the speed here and if given a good time in front he will be hard to run down.
BETTER NOT BLUE will relish getting back out to 1400 here. He hit the line powerfully in the Civic Stakes and looks really well set up for a race like this. Ideally he would want it a touch wetter, but his form this time in has been fantastic
ZIN ZAN EDDIE has trialled nicely leading into this. This looks to be a plan for a first up effort here given the horse has his best form over 1400 and on softer going. He gets in with a winnable weight and has to be considered.
SELECTIONS: No 3 TALES OF GRIMM, No 5 Oxford Poet, No 9 Better Not Blue, No 7 Zin Zan Eddie
Value Runner: Zin Zan Eddie
Race 7 3:15pm TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP 1200m
EL SASSO was utterly dominant first up from a spell and has found another winnable race here. He beat a solid field that day and only goes up 1kg in the handicap. Five of his six wins have come on soft going and he gets the same conditions here and should be winning this.
FORGET has trialled well leading into this and was a winner of the Cameron Handicap last preparation. The 1200 may be a touch too short first up, but he gets in with a winnable weight and will have conditions to suit.
GRANDE PUNTO drops 6kgs from his run last Saturday and looks to have a chance yet again here. The winner smashed the field and GP wasn’t too far off the placegetters. Some of his best runs have come at Rosehill and he has to be given a chance again.
PAINTE comes out of the same race as GP last Saturday and gets a 5kg weight drop himself. Joe Pride horses seem to thrive on a quick backup and a market watch is advised as he has conditions to suit.
SELECTIONS: No 3 EL SASSO, No 1 Forget, No 11 Grande Punto, No 8 Painte
Value Runner: Forget
Race 8 3:55pm PLUCK @ VINERY HANDICAP 1350m
THUD has drawn perfectly for her racing pattern here and has a chance to win for the first time this preparation. She hasn’t had much luck at both of her runs but they have been quite good. If the luck goes her way she will be hard to beat.
ELLE LOU didn’t get the best of rides last weekend and is an interesting runner on the quick back up here. Jennings didn’t show much interest till the turn there and by then the race was over. She gets a senior here and with her record in the conditions she will be hard to beat.
EXTENSIBLE has trialled quite well leading into this here. She has been down to run and scratched a few times in recent weeks and I’m thinking that’s due to some of the heavy tracks that have been around. She has placed on soft going in her career and she has to be given a chance given the way the Snowdens place their horses.
ZELDA gets in with only 52.5 after the claim here and was quite good last start behind Elle Lou, she gets a weight swing on her for that day and has produced some good efforts in soft going in the past and has to be considered.
SELECTIONS: No 7 THUD, No 1 Elle Lou, No 11 Extensible, No 12 Zelda
Value Runner: Elle Lou
THUD is also entered in this race here but has drawn out in 11. I don’t expect her to run in this race, but if she does she is the top selection.
HILL SPY resumes after what was a solid last preparation. He won some good races at country level last preparation and was only just beaten in a listed race in Adelaide. Just touched off in a Wagga Town Plate, has no trial leading into this and he has a great first up record. After the claim he is well in and he should be hard to beat.
TYPHOON JOLIE has had two solid trials coming into her first up run here. She is a winner first up in the past and has won three of her four runs at Rosehill. She has drawn a touch awkwardly here and will need to have some luck in running to find a position.
BUTTERBOOM looks to take up the speed here from barrier 6. Her efforts as of late have been really good. She stays at the 1200 and at Rosehill which have produced some of her best efforts over her career thus far. If she can get an even enough time of it. She will be hard to run down.
SELECTIONS: No 7 THUD, No 2 Hill Spy, No 5 Typhoon Jolie, No 3 Butterboom
Value Runner: Hill Spy
