The rail is out 7.5 metres at Doomben on Wednesday which means relatively small fields. The track surface will be good with no rain forecast. The only problem on this day, surprisingly, is noise as it is an annual day for young people. A crowd of 15,000 to 20,000 is expected with live bands and entertainment making a real din. Sometimes horses get stirred up which has been the undoing of more than one runner in recent years.
R1 1.23pm Bundaberg Rum Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap 1350m
GOLDEN FUTURE was racing well before being disappointing at Eagle Farm last start. But as we keep saying many horses just don't handle Eagle Farm at the moment and best to ignore that run.
STRATUZY is another who wasn't suited at Eagle Farm last time. Has run two good seconds this track and gets her chance here.
NORTHERN REVENGE has been around the money at the provincial tracks and has an each way hope here.
COLLAR’S UP showed good pace at the Gold Coast last time but has a bad barrier here.
ADJOURNED has fair form but did trial okay back in June and is a value hope.
SELECTIONS: NO1 GOLDEN FUTURE, NO3 STRATUZY, NO4 NORTHERN REVENGE, NO7 COLLAR’S UP. VALUE RUNNER: NO8 ADJOURNED
R2 1.53pm Disco Entertainment, Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap 1350m
THE OVERDRAFT was very well backed at first race start and looked the winner at the 200m only to peak. Then again was in the wrong part of the infamous Eagle Farm track. Only has to overcome the bad barrier to be a hope here.
VISONA PLAYBOY is very close to a win after two good placings at past two starts.
HALLSIDE REBEL has been placed six times and is always an each way hope. He is one of the few chances to have a good barrier here.
DIA DE REYES trialled well and then raced in good two-year-old company last start. This distance should suit but another with a bad barrier.
The big worry here is CARTAGENA, who has raced well in the south and was an impressive trial winner recently.
SELECTIONS: NO2 THE OVERDRAFT, NO3 VISONA PLAYBOY, NO6 HALLSIDE REBEL, NO8 DIA DE REYES. VALUE RUNNER: NO1 CARTAGENA.
R3 2.23pm Castrol Gold Coast 600 Party In Paradise QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap 1050m
JAKUTA has been good at all of his starts. Looked good first up when a winner and should be handy from the barrier throughout.
CHARLEE BEAR has won five times in the northern rivers with his only defeat in Brisbane earlier in his two-year-old year when had no luck. He has a claim here but the barrier is no help at all.
ARNHEM BEAUTY has been racing well in easier company but another who is drawn to be handy the whole way here.
CANTON ROAD showed ability last campaign and should be fitter for recent racing. Looks the best value here.
SELECTIONS: NO2 JAKUTA, NO1 CHARLEE BEAR, NO6 ARNHEM BEAUTY, NO9 CANTON ROAD. VALUE RUNNER: NO9 CANTON ROAD.
R4 2.53pm Hamo Hotel H Lounge After Party Class 1 Handicap 1650m
DAME VAN WINKLE has been honest of late and this is the type of race which really suits her. She has her share of weight but this isn't hard.
AMERICAN DIVA has also been racing well in fair company. The stable never comes to town unless they have a chance.
HIDDEN GOLD scored one of the wins of the month when a winner at the Sunshine Coast. Missed the start and came from last to win. Won't want to give a start here but should be better for race experience.
PURSUITS was stakes placed in Melbourne before coming here. She has won a trial and then a maiden. The only downside is her weight when going up sharply in distance.
COMMAND HUNTER raced well on the provincial tracks before being well beaten in a much tougher city race last time. He should lead from the barrier and not the worst at odds.
SELECTIONS: NO3 DAME VAN WINKLE, NO7 AMERICAN DIVA, NO5 HIDDEN GOLD, NO2 PURSUITS. VALUE RUNNER: NO4 COMMAND HUNTER.
R5 3.23pm Smirnoff Class 2 Handicap 2050m
ANSWERED will be good odds here but past two starts have been handy. He is one of the few down in the weights with a real chance.
MYSTERIUM is starting to get the rewards for good overall form with wins at past two starts. But has plenty of weight here and will need a nice easy run.
SENTIMENTAL PRINCE was a good winner last start but is another who will need a touch of luck here.
GORADA is a horse on the up and good winner last start in easier race. Looks like a middle distance will suit his racing style.
LOST THIEF has been okay past two starts and would like to see him lead by himself here. If that happens he could cause an upset.
SELECTIONS: NO11 ANSWERED, NO1 MYSTERIUM, NO2 SENTIMENTAL PRINCE, NO7 GORADA. VALUE RUNNER: NO13 LOST THIEF.
R6 3.53pm Become a BRC Social Member Class 3 Handicap 1110m
SUNNY VICTORY was a handy winner at Ipswich last start and has 3kgs claim and barrier one here. This looks a nice race for him.
KHALEEQ usually gets better with racing and not a bad run last time. Another who is drawn to get a good run here.
PEPPERANO was a top class two-year-old who raced in elite company. She has had a lot of problems but did win a trial in good fashion recently. At her best would easily beat these but it has been a while between best runs.
GRACEFULLY CHIC has always shown potential and scored a good win last time. A real chance down in the weights at good odds.
SELECTIONS: NO5 SUNNY VICTORY, NO 8 KHALEEQ, NO12 PEPPERANO, NO13 GRACEFULLY CHIC. VALUE RUNNER: NO13 GRACEFULLY CHIC.
R7 4.23pm Oh Hello! Class 5 Handicap 1200m
SHARPE HUSSLER would have nearly won a much harder race on Saturday but was an emergency and didn't get a start. He is starting to get a bit costly but should nearly win this.
ROMANARMA has been racing in tougher company and is a horse who gets better with a few starts under his belt.
SEQUALEX was awful first up but there were excuses and he has never been a first up horse. Expect him to go better here.
RED DIAMONDS had good form last campaign and better suited this track. She trialled well before two ordinary comeback runs but give one more chance.
FREEROCKER has never been a first up horse but this time he has had two trials and gone okay both times. Not without a chance here at big odds.
SELECTIONS: NO6 SHARPE HUSSLER, NO2 ROMANARMA, NO4 SEQUALEX, NO9 RED DIAMONDS. VALUE RUNNER: NO7 FREEROCKER.
R8 4.57pm XXXX Summer Class 4 Handicap 1350m
MOONLIGHT DANCER was left in front last time and then ran into the "Badlands" at Eagle Farm and got bogged down. On previous form very hard to beat here.
SILENTO will probably make a nice stayer this campaign but he has won second-up and if there is a genuine pace, watch for him late.
RAFFINATO was much better last start and while she doesn't win many she is usually worth an each way ticket. Has a handy weight but barrier no help.
BENTLES is a much better horse than the form guide would indicate. First-up here and has won fresh. No trial but has had a jump out so respected.
ROCK ON IVY has been looking for this distance and should be good value here.
SELECTIONS: NO10 MOONLIGHT DANCER, NO9 SILENTO, NO6 RAFFINATO, NO3 BENTLES. VALUE RUNNER: NO8 ROCK ON IVY.
