Doomben was drenched by 25mm of rain in 15 minutes on Saturday and the final three races were abandoned. The track has been drying out well but will still be on the rain-affected side, with the rail out six metres. No more rain is predicted at this stage but that can change, so be careful.
TED is a first starter who won a trial in good fashion. He was well-backed to win a three-year-old two weeks ago but was scratched because of the wet track. He is bred to win a Melbourne Cup but is reportedly smart.
STELLAR KNIGHT is getting near a win with three handy recent placings. He is well-drawn and has a 3kgs claim.
DUKE DE VEGA had handy NSW form before being transferred to a Caloundra stable. Has run six placings but this can be his first win.
HALLSIDE REBEL has had plenty of chances but he will win one of these one day.
ROCKABELLA BOY is another who had handy NSW form and he did run on okay at first run this area.
SELECTIONS: NO9 TED, NO3 STELLAR KNIGHT, NO1 DUKE DE VEGA, NO4 HALLSIDE REBEL.
VALUE RUNNER: NO6 ROCKABELLA BOY.
R3 1.55pm BERT/CIP FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350m
NORTHERN REVENGE has been a consistent placegetter of late and with a 3kgs claim and barrier two looks well-placed in a weak maiden.
MADAM AMAROGUE is racing well enough to beat this lot. Fitter for last-start third in a tougher race.
MARABEL trialled well in Sydney and wasn't a bad run first try this area at the Sunshine Coast.
MIA MAGIC was good two runs back at this track but plodded at the Sunshine Coast. She is a rough chance back at this track.
SELECTIONS: NO1 NORTHERN REVENGE, NO8 MADAM AMAROGUE, NO9 MARABEL, NO6 MIA MAGIC.
VALUE RUNNER: NO6 MIA MAGIC.
R4 2.35pm ETU THE SHIRLEY WHITE CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350m
DUTCH TREAT can be hard to catch and only recent win was at big odds, but is racing solidly and has a 3kgs claim here on a soft track which she likes.
GO ON RED beat Group One winner Yankee Rose in a trial recently (if that is any claim to fame) and has been placed a few times first-up.
LADY DUPORTH doesn't win many but she does like wet tracks and this distance suits.
ELENI WHIRL had some good form in Sydney earlier in her career. She does like wet tracks and won a trial recently beating a small field.
SELECTIONS: NO6 DUTCH TREAT, NO2 GO ON RED, NO7 LADY DUPORTH, NO4 ELENI WHIRL.
VALUE RUNNER: NO4 ELENI WHIRL.
R5 3.10pm CFMEU QLD/NT BRANCH CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1640m
SILENTO looked very hard to beat in a Saturday race at Doomben before it was washed out. Forget his last-start failure at Sunshine Coast where the early slow pace was against him.
RAFFINATO is racing well and always has an each-way chance these races.
GOULDIAN was solid at last start after a good win previous effort. Handles slow tracks okay.
TOPENDING isn't having a lot of luck this campaign but a good second at this track last start. He can win this.
ROCK ON IVY has never won on a wet track but has been placed several times on soft going. She ran well here two starts back when a close-up fourth and has since been placed in Toowoomba. Looks great value here with a 3kgs claim.
SELECTIONS: NO2 SILENTO, NO5 RAFFINATO, NO1 GOULDIAN, NO7 TOPENDING.
VALUE RUNNER: NO8 ROCK ON IVY.
R6 3.45pm CFMEU M & E DIVISION QLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200m
SAYS ME trialled poorly but then a good second at first run for nearly a year last time. She should be fitter. This looks a weak race on paper and she gets a chance to win here.
NOTHING TO DANCE has been good at both of her starts. She looked the winner everywhere but the line at Ipswich last start.
REIGNING THUNDER won from a wide barrier at the Sunshine Coast last start. He should go with it now.
POLSKIE LADY is handy and would have been the top tip apart from her barrier. Her racing style suggests she could get into trouble from barrier (13) but with any luck would be in the finish.
I'VE GOT FRIENDS has been going okay at Toowoomba and not without a value hope.
SELECTIONS: NO4 SAYS ME, NO7 NOTHING TO DANCE, NO1 REIGNING THUNDER, NO5 POLSKIE LADY.
VALUE RUNNER: N03 I'VE GOT FRIENDS.
R7 4.20pm UNITED VOICE QLD CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1110m
HANWRITTEN (BEST BET) is a six-year-old who has only had five starts. However, the wraps on him are very big and he was well tried when beaten first-up at Doomben last month. He didn't have the best of luck in that race. He had won a trial in very impressive fashion prior to that run and was favourite for a race in Sydney before the stable elected to run him in Brisbane. This is an above average midweek race but he did beat stakes winner Ball of Muscle at his first race start. He is fitter here and won his only other second-up run. Also, he has won on soft going.
SELECTIONS: NO4 HANWRITTEN, NO1 STELLA OMBRA, NO2 TUSCAN FALLS, NO8 MADIBA.
VALUE RUNNER: NO8 MADIBA.
R8 4.55pm CBUS SUPER CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1200m
ASSERTORY (NEXT BEST BET) has had a stable switch and was very heavily backed at her first start for the new yard when second to Prompt Return here two weeks back. The winner ran a fast time but Assertory finished the race off very well. Prompt Return has since run very well again in Saturday company. She likes Doomben and soft tracks and is well drawn. Also, she is not harshly weighted here and has an in-form jockey. She needs a strong pace and she should get that in a big field here.
SELECTIONS: NO11 ASSERTORY, NO1 EMPHASIS, NO4 LEGENDARY LUKE, NO8 IGNEOUS.
VALUE RUNNER: NO6 SAINT HUGO.
