A 10-event programme at Eagle Farm with more rain predicted. What can we say other than to be careful until a pattern of racing emerges. The rail is out six metres, which shouldn't make any difference to the recent racing pattern of horses getting wider as the day goes on. Also, remember to back horses who have shown they can handle the new Eagle Farm surface.
A few of these have plenty of convictions but at least DENONINATOR tries hard. He hasn't been in the right part of the track at his two recent starts and with a bit of luck should be hard to beat. The only worry is that this time the stable isn't claiming, so he will carry his full weight.
ANNAMAN is starting to get costly but he is always about the place. An each-way hope again and especially if it rains.
EMERALD CITY has plenty of weight but should be fitter for recent racing. The 3kgs claim is a big help.
ROCK THE PAC has been terrible of late and has run last at his past two starts. But he has won six times at 2200m and he should be fitter now. Good roughie.
SELECTIONS: NO2 DENONINATOR, NO4 ANNAMAN, NO1 EMERALD CITY, NO6 ROCK THE PAC.
VALUE RUNNER: NO6 ROCK THE PAC.
R3 12.22pm NATURAL PEST CONTROL QLD BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 1400m
MONSIEUR GUSTAVE faces his acid test here but he has been racing very well in easier company. He should be able to lead and will be hard to run down.
MONSTER OF ENERGY finally broke through for another win last start. He is very consistent and despite getting up in the weights should race well again.
SKYLIMIT won two races very well and then got run off his feet last start in a very fast race. Handles Eagle Farm and better paced here at 1400m.
SHIPWRECKED has never lived up to the big early wraps on him but on his day he can be hard to beat as he showed in two recent wins. But the trick is to find his day.
SELECTIONS: NO10 MONSIEUR GUSTAVE, NO4 MONSTER OF ENERGY, NO2 SKYLIMIT, NO7 SHIPWRECKED.
VALUE RUNNER: NO7 SHIPWRECKED.
R4 12.57pm AQWA CONSTRUCTION OPEN NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1000m
These sort of races in Brisbane often throw up rough results. But HOT HIT has strong Sydney form and looks very well placed here.
BUSH CAVIAR was good last start in a 1200m race at Eagle Farm and back to 1000m here is suited as he has won five times at the distance and has the leading jockey in Jeff Lloyd.
STELLA OMBRA was scratched on Wednesday for this race. Trialled very well before resuming with a handy effort in a harder race last start.
MORNING FOG is best on wet tracks and has never started at Eagle Farm. But this does look a nice race for her.
YABA DABL DOYA is a trier and never runs a bad race. The question is whether he has the class to win in town but will be good value.
SELECTIONS: NO1 HOT HIT, NO3 BUSH CAVIAR, NO12 STELLA OMBRA, NO8 MORNING FOG.
VALUE RUNNER: NO10 YABA DABL DOYA.
R5 1.32pm BRC SPRING CARNIVAL OPEN HANDICAP 1830m
DECONSTRUCTED hasn't won for a good while but has been caught in the wrong part of the track a couple of times. On the old Eagle Farm track you wouldn't have backed anything from a wide barrier at this start which is on a bend. But it can sometimes be an advantage on the new surface.
LA SPIAGGIA has shown he can handle Eagle Farm and his overall form is good.
REVITALISE has a 3kgs claim and has been racing well enough to trouble this field.
TERONADO is turning into a non-winner but if he is ever going to win again this could be it. He does handle Eagle Farm well and the 1800m should be ideal at this stage of his campaign.
COLOUR CHARGE has won a couple of times at 1800m and should measure up to open company.
DOUBLE IMPACT will be big odds but might get a soft lead here and does like wet tracks.
SELECTIONS: NO8 DECONSTRUCTED, NO6 LA SPIAGGIA, NO2 TERONADO, NO6 COLOUR CHARGE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO4 DOUBLE IMPACT.
R6 2.07pm VEUVE SOCIETY HANDICAP 1400m
Tricky race because a couple of these have shown a distinct dislike for Eagle Farm.
DREAM CHOICE does handle the track and has been very honest of late. The 1400m is some question mark but this is weak.
ELLAWISDOM wasn't suited by a very slow pace last start and was strong to the line. There should be more pace here and she will be running home hard. The only trouble is she is a seven-year-old mare.
TOTAL AUTHORITY will race up on the pace and is another who can handle Eagle Farm.
ONE INCH PUNCH is up to open company here but this isn't strong and he has been in good form.
ROCKY KING got away with a very slow pace when led last time. His best chance would be for that to happen again but it is unlikely.
SELECTIONS: NO3 DREAM CHOICE, NO5 ELLAWISDOM, NO6 TOTAL AUTHORITY, NO9 ONE INCH PUNCH.
VALUE RUNNER: NO1 ROCKY KING.
R7 2.47pm BRC CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL CLASS 6 PLATE 1600m
SILENTO has missed two recent starts because of wet tracks but gets into a perfect race for him here. The only worry will be getting clear in the straight from the inside barrier.
SECRET PUZZLE has been in a rare patch of form and likes wet tracks. The 1600m should be ideal at this stage of her campaign.
BOUND FOR LOVE is thrown in here under the Plate weight scale. She has been racing very well and is another suited at 1600m.
BRAZEN MOSS has been consistent and trialled well behind star galloper Buffering recently. In fact, he beat home a couple of Group winners in the race. But then again he has won one race and been second six times this campaign.
SELECTIONS: NO9 SILENTO, NO10 SECRET PUZZLE, NO14 BOUND FOR LOVE, NO11 BRAZEN MOSS.
VALUE RUNNER: NO11 BRAZEN MOSS.
R8 3.27pm TRACKSIDE OPENAIR CINEMA CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1200m
CONSORTING (Best Bet) turned in an eye catching debut this area when second over 1000m. He had some very strong Melbourne form earlier in his career which included placings in Listed and Group Three races. He beat later Group-One winner The Quarterback home in one of those races. Stepping out to 1200m here and has the perfect draw (provided the rail isn't too bad). Jockey Larry Cassidy broke his comeback duck last week and is determined to ride more winners. The obvious danger in El Sasso has been withdrawn so we might not get the good odds we were hoping for.
MOST IMPORTANT (Next Best Bet) if ever going to return to the winners list this race should be it. He found the wet track and 1400m a test last start but his previous form was solid and the way this race should be run should suit him. He should be able to get into a position just behind the pace and then get to the right part of the track in the straight. There is plenty of pace in this race, so he should be able to get across quickly in behind the leaders. Also, there is a change of jockey and the new rider Robbie Fradd can stand over his horses and get them to try at 100%. If he runs to his potential, he will win at nice each way odds.
SELECTIONS: NO3 MOST IMPORTANT, NO4 MAN OF HIS WORD, NO5 PEPPERANO, NO7 QUEEN TARA.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 10 PEARLY COURT.
R10 4.47pm FOR SALE – 126 MEIN STREET HENDRA CLASS 3 PLATE 1500m
These races can be a nightmare to predict, but UNASSUMING had no luck at all last start and was a good winner previously. From barrier two with a 3kgs claim it looks one of the main players.
ONE MANSINI has blinkers for the first time here and is another who has had no luck at all of late.
BECKONING LIGHT walked out of the barriers last start but only ran on fairly after that poor start. Was a strong winner previously and this distance should suit.
FASTQUEST is much better suited back in this grade. He can sprint very quickly at the end of his races but just needs to get clear at the right time.
NO THANKYOU ALI (Best Roughie) has shown some ability and was a good winner last start. Looks the best roughie bet of the day. It has always had something of a wrap on it and just needs some luck.
SELECTIONS: NO15 UNASSUMING, NO16 ONE MANSINI, NO11 BECKONING LIGHT, NO7 FASTQUEST.
VALUE RUNNER: NO6 NO THANKYOU ALI.
