The rail is in the true position and the ground is a soft 5, but we may get up to a good 4.

BEST BET – Race 7, No 4 ENGLISH.

Race 1 12:15pm TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1000m

Happy to side with NIGHTS ON FIRE fresh here. She looks to get a lovely run on the map, where she can be in her own comfort zone and when Shinn wants to push the button he can. She hasn’t won in almost two years, but her form last preparation was fantastic.

MOSS MY NAME on the back up is another who looks suited here. Avdulla can cruise across from the outside barrier and dictate terms and be tough to run down.

LEAMI ASTRAY has been running fast times on the country circuit and comes to the city for the first time here. Her wins have been down on the south coast and that form invariably stacks up in these highway races. She will need to jump cleanly from barrier (4) to ensure she has her best chance.

TORIO’S DELIGHT wasn’t too far off Rose Of Man at the end of his last preparation. He has claimed away down to 52kgs and with a clear run he can make his presence felt.

SELECTIONS: No4 NIGHTS ON FIRE, No3 Moss My Name, No2 Leami Astray, No10 Torio’s Delight.
Value Runner: No4 Nights On Fire.

Race 2 12:50pm #THERACES HANDICAP 1600m

FABRIZIO backs up quickly here after a tough effort last weekend behind Invizabeel. He was just found wanting late and that run should have brought him on perfectly here. Clark jumps aboard and can stalk the speed and push the button when he needs to.

SIGNPOSTED has been low flying this preparation and looks well set up for another win here. He does get away from the rain-affected tracks that he has been loving as of late. He looks to take up the speed again and if he can get a breather in front they will struggle to run him down.

STEGGLER is an interesting runner here for Weiry. This horse gets away from Moonee Valley for the first time in his brief Australian career, where his runs have not been too bad. His best form overseas was on top of the ground and he gets that here.

MAGICUS has yet to be seen in Sydney so far in his career even though he is trained by Waller. His form this preparation has been quite good and he finds Bowman for his first Sydney run. Where he is drawn will find him in the right part of the track in the straight and should be coming at them late.

SELECTIONS: No10 FABRIZIO, No1 Signposted, No13 Steggler, No9 Magicus.
Value Runner: No13 Steggler.

I loved the way that GUARD OF HONOUR has trialled leading into this; without being asked for an effort he put a margin on Clearly Innocent and did it under his own steam. His maiden win in June was full of class and bordered on arrogant. I love that Bowman sticks with him and he can take the next step here.

JERICHO is another who has been trialling brilliantly coming into his first-up run. He should have residual fitness on his side given his Brisbane campaign. Archives has stacked that form up well from the Hampden stakes and with the blinkers on for the first time, the Snowden team are showing some intent here.

TANGO RAIN was brave behind Star Turn last start and showed that he could reel off a sectional too. The form around him has stacked up quite well and if he can get a soft enough lead he will be tough to run down.

HAIR TRIGGER has his first run at “home” and should find the wide open spaces of Randwick much more comfortable than his last start at Canterbury where he was forced to go back and just ran out of ground. The trial in between runs was fantastic and with luck from barrier (4) he will be in the finish.

SELECTIONS: No8 GUARD OF HONOUR, No3 Jericho, No2 Tango Rain, No10 Hair Trigger.
Value Runner: No3 Jericho.

Race 4 2:00pm TAB TEA ROSE STAKES 1400m

GLOBAL GLAMOUR should have more luck in the run here after enduring a torrid run first up. She was wide the trip and was entitled to drop out but kept finding late. The step-up to 1400m looks as if it will suit.

FOXPLAY was fantastic when winning on resumption. She looked as if she would run a nice second at the furlong, but just unleashed with a sprint and overpowered Bacarella. The step up to 1400m will suit her here. The drier conditions won’t be an issue as she was two lengths off Detective and Kiss And Make Up at her only other run on top of the ground.

SEZANNE has been doing the job well in a lesser grade this time in. She is absolutely flying and this is the right time to have a crack at stakes level. Waller has a good hand on his 3yo fillies and wouldn’t be running her here for no reason.

CHIPANDA will be happy to get back on top of the ground. O’Shea is putting on the blinkers here and the way the Godolphin horses are going currently it would be foolish to discount her.

SELECTIONS: No6 GLOBAL GLAMOUR, No1 Foxplay, No7 Sezanne, No5 Chipanda.
Value Runner: No5 Chipanda.

With the drying weather here and how he hit the line late first-up, I have to make PREFERMENT my BEST ROUGHIE of the day here. The discrepancy between him and Hartnell, price-wise, is too big. Yes, he has to make up eight lengths from the Chelmsford but he definitely can. At his last two second-up runs in previous campaigns where he has raced over 2000m he has, winning an Australian Cup and this race last year. His last 100m was fantastic on the unsuitable heavy going first up behind Hartnell. He gets back on top of the ground here and that is enough to turn the tables on Hartnell here given his ratings spike when he is second-up at the 2000m.

HARTNELL is the odds on favourite here and was dynamic when winning last start. I think this may be a flat run here and I’m willing to take him on at $1.40. MAGIC HURRICANE is the only other chance here, back to WFA third up.

SELECTIONS: No2 PREFERMENT, No1 Hartnell, No6 Magic Hurricane, No5 Storm The Stars.
Value Runner: No2 Preferment.

Honestly, no one can realistically see WINX getting beaten here. Sit back and enjoy her for the last time in Sydney this preparation. Bowman will have her outside the leader and she will cruise to victory.

HAURAKI looks to be the exacta horse here. He was fantastic first-up when winning over an unsuitable distance. He chased home Winx twice last prep for placings.

TOSEN STARDOM ran against the “B” grade in Melbourne first-up and the run did look good yes, but a horse who is going to challenge Winx should have finished off a lot better. Take a line through Contributer and Criterion and see what Winx did to them in the last 12 months.

SELECTIONS: No8 WINX, No2 Hauraki, No1 Tosen Stardom, No3 It’s Somewhat.
No value here, Winx wins. Take the 8 – 2 exacta.

Here we have the BEST BET of the day with ENGLISH. She has been trialling the house down leading into this. At the set weights and penalties, she is well in given she is the top rated horse in the race. Barrier (10) is perfect as Tommy will have her out of trouble in the run. She is unbeaten first up and last campaign was only one length off Chautauqua and was able to run down Black Heart Bart in the All Aged Stakes.

SELECTIONS: No4 ENGLISH, No3 Takedown, No9 Kaepernick, No1 Japonisme.
Value Runner: No3 Takedown.

Race 8 4:35pm BILL RITCHIE HANDICAP 1400m

HAPPY CLAPPER looks quite well placed here and is our NEXT BEST BET of the day here. He hit the line very well first up and it was his last 200m that really impressed me. He looked as if he would improve for the run and looks well suited here. The only “miss” he has second-up was last preparation when he was fifth in a George Ryder. He has run his best races at Randwick and could well blow them away here.

SELECTIONS: No1 HAPPY CLAPPER, No8 Tsaritsa, No11 Handfast, No2 Mighty Lucky.
Value Runner: No11 Handfast.

Race 9 5:15pm SENSIS DASH 1200m

Tough race to end the day here and DAYSEE DOOM is on top, looking to extend her unbeaten run to four here. She looked to be stakes class at the end of her last prep and has found a nice race to kick off in. Her two trials leading in have been quite good and with the claim she is going to be hard to beat.

TORPENHOW gets a weight drop and the blinkers for the first time here. Godolphin have been absolutely flying lately. He will be well suited getting onto drier ground here and with only the one turn from the start, McDonald will have him in clear air where he can wind up and unleash that sprint that he has.

BRIGADOON RISE has some good form around her from her last preparation. She took on some well-performed horses and never shirked her task once. Her trials this time in have been pleasing and I’m willing to give her a chance here.

NO DOUBT has been running good times at the provincial circuit and looks to take the step up here. It isn’t uncommon for Cummings to throw his horses in the deep end, so I’m happy to see him taking a “cautious” approach with one. He drops 4kgs on his last-start run and finds Williams here. From a good gate he could cause a shock.

SELECTIONS: No9 DAYSEE DOOM, No8 Torpenhow, No10 Brigadoon Rise, No15 No Doubt.
Value Runner: No10 Brigadoon Rise.
