The track is rated a Soft 7 following rain on Sunday. Fine weather is expected on Tuesday but unfortunately more rain is predicted to fall on Wednesday, which is likely to ensure the track remains in the Soft range and potentially a downgrade to Heavy. The rail has been moved to the 8m position, shifting out 2m from last Wednesday's meeting. Normally when the track is wet, swoopers and runners away from the fence are advantaged.
RED SCARLET should roll forward and scored impressively last time at the Gold Coast.
DISTORTION won stylishly first-up at the Gold Coast and has scope for further improvement. She also has some soft track credentials, is well-weighted and drawn perfectly.
VIDARR opened his account with a gutsy win at the Sunshine Coast. Importantly, that win was on a wet track, so he must be respected.
SELECTIONS: NO3 RED SCARLET, NO8 DISTORTION, NO4 VIDARR.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 4 VIDARR.
R2 1.18pm COCA COLA CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1650m
Only a small field with seven runners but plenty of interest.
ROCK ON IVY signalled last start she was ready to win when she hit the line strongly to finish third at this track and trip. Although she's yet to win in the wet, she's been placed many times and gets in well after Josh Oliver's claim, which will help to offset the tricky outside alley.
RICH REWARD ran well to finish third at the Gold Coast last start. If the predicted rain arrives, her prospects will soar.
KINCAPLE CHIEF ran a much better race last time in blinkers and is another who will enjoy a rain-affected track, with two wins on soft going to his credit.
BUTCHER BLUE has won two out of his three runs this campaign and gets a nice weight drop from a perfect draw.
SELECTIONS: NO2 ROCK ON IVY, NO6 RICH REWARD, NO1 KINCAPLE CHIEF, NO4 BUTCHER BLUE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO6 RICH REWARD.
R3 1.55pm JAMES BOAGS MAIDEN PLATE 1350m
MEADOW is beautifully bred and ran well at her only outing at the Sunshine Coast. The runner-up in that race was last Saturday's Eagle Farm winner Balboa Rocks, so the formline is strong.
SCENSAY has blinkers on and is coming off a second at the Gold Coast to Hi Harry who, next time out, was runner-up in the race won by Balboa Rocks last Saturday.
HUSSON BOOTS was a bit unlucky when fourth first up at the Sunshine Coast. She's bred to handle the wet, being by Husson.
There's nothing wrong with the form of CLEVER BLAZE, who was runner-up here a fortnight ago and will appreciate the step up to 1350m.
SELECTIONS: NO 14 MEADOW, NO4 SCENSAY, NO13 HUSSON BOOTS, NO12 CLEVER BLAZE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO4 SCENSAY.
R4 2.35pm CANADIAN CLUB MELBOURNE CUP DAY C,G&E BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1050m
If GRACIDA brings his A-game then he should be too good for his rivals. He has a great first-up record and handles wet tracks well. The only negative is he can play up in the barriers on the odd occasion but if he's in the right mindset he's better than midweek grade.
TYCOON ACE was runner-up at the Sunshine Coast first up and the winner of that race, Alpen Rose, ran well at Eagle Farm last Saturday.
THOMAS THE TANK has been struggling lately but this is the easiest race he's contested for a while and he's a proven performer on wet tracks. He should zoom across from his wide gate and will take plenty of catching.
ALI MOUNTAIN is drawn gate one and his ability to handle wet tracks brings him right into contention.
SELECTIONS: NO7 GRACIDA, NO2 TYCOON ACE, NO4 THOMAS THE TANK, NO6 ALI MOUNTAIN.
VALUE RUNNER: NO6 ALI MOUNTAIN.
R5 3.10pm UBET FILLIES & MARES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350m
LIGHT SHOWS made good improvement off her first-up run to score stylishly at the Sunshine Coast last start. She's drawn to get a cosy trail and has the services of genius jockey Damian Browne. Another factor in her favour is her ability to handle wet tracks.
The wetter the better for WIGGLE WIGGLE who won last time out on a bog track at the Gold Coast. Although she's drawn out, she'll roll forward and give another great sight.
RED FUTURE hasn't been setting the world on fire this campaign but after two runs back she should be nearing peak fitness and trainer Tony Sears has put the blinkers back on, which is a good sign. It's worth remembering she ran third to subsequent Roses winner Kebede this track and trip last prep.
If there's a downpour then add FLEUR D'ORAGE (Best Roughie) to all your multiples. She's three from three on heavy tracks.
SELECTIONS: NO2 LIGHT SHOWS, NO5 WIGGLE WIGGLE, NO4 RED FUTURE, NO7 FLEUR D'ORAGE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO7 FLEUR D'ORAGE.
Although he's yet to win beyond 1200m, it's going to take a good performance from one of his rivals to upstage DANDY ONE (Next Best Bet). He led all the way to win on a soft track two starts back at the Sunshine Coast before a solid third to Monsieur Gustave this track and trip last start. That form speaks for itself.
SELECTIONS: NO1 DANDY ONE, NO7 THE UMBRELLA MAN, NO3 SAGAMAMA, NO9 NEARCTIC CHILLER.
VALUE RUNNER: NO9 NEARCTIC CHILLER.
R7 4.20pm CLEGG MEDIA 20TH ANNIVERSARY FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1050m
It might pay to forgive ABRACADASH one bad run. She finished only fifth at Eagle Farm last start but it was a hot race won by Hidden Pearl in the fastest time for 1000m on the revamped track. Before that, her form was outstanding, stringing together a hat-trick of wins. She handles the wet and has been freshened up.
HONEY HOLT creates plenty of interest. She's first-up after nearly a year off but trainer Tony Sears has booked champion jockey Damian Browne, which is a lead in itself. This mare showed last time in that she's up to Saturday grade and she excels on wet tracks.
What you see is what you get with KHALEESI. She jumps and runs and has only been beaten once on a rain-affected track.
ONE IN ONE OUT had a confidence-boosting win last time at the Sunshine Coast. Jockey Luke Tarrant has great options from gate four.
SELECTIONS: NO1 ABRACADASH, NO6 HONEY HOLT, NO7 KHALEESI, NO8 ONE IN ONE OUT.
VALUE RUNNER: NO8 ONE IN ONE OUT.
R8 5.00pm VEUVE SOCIETY CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200m
There's no reason MAGIC LOVE (Best Bet) can't add to the picket fence as she progresses through the lower ranks before making it to Saturday grade in the weeks ahead. She has a touch of class and although Jeff Lloyd won't be riding her this time she loses nothing in that department with Damian Browne aboard here.
SELECTIONS: NO4 MAGIC LOVE, NO3 KHALEEQ, NO7 SAILOR GERRI, NO9 SUITE MOVER.
VALUE RUNNER: NO9 SUITE MOVER.
