R1 12.15pm #THE RACES HANDICAP 2000m
It's hard to ignore how ANTONIO GIUSEPPE has progressed through his grades since arriving in Australia, winning his past three outings. He was a slender victor here a fortnight ago over 1800m over stablemate Four Carat. He rises to ten furlongs for the first time now and being by Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, that step up is expected to be no issue.
FOUR CARAT wasn't far off upsetting his more fancied stablemate last start. First-up after a short break, it was an encouraging start to his spring campaign which he can build upon here.
With a host of gear changes and added fitness third-up off a lengthy spell, don't be surprised to see UK import SALTHOUSE produce a sharply improved result.
While not as effective on firm tracks, DUBAIINSTYLE has been holding his form well of late and stays under notice.
MANDALONG KISS outclassed in the Kingston Town last start. Tough win this track and distance two runs back and better placed here
SELECTIONS: No1, ANTONIO GIUSEPPE, No2 Four Carat, No5 Salthouse, No3 Dubaiinstyle
VALUE RUNNER: No6 Mandalong Kiss
R2 12.50pm 2016 QUEEN’S CUP 2400m
ALLERGIC (Best Bet) gets the nod. The gelding has performed well this campaign having raced entirely at this course. While rolled as favourite in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes last start, the run still possessed merit. There is substantially less depth to this contest, if the longer trip can bring out some improvement and James McDonald get's his tactics right the gelding is expected to take a power of beating.
SELECTIONS: No2 ALLERGIC, No1 Junoob, No3 Alegria, No4 Chaquinta
VALUE RUNNER: No1 Junoob
R3 1.25pm TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1500m
Open race but suspect COOL IN BLACK can go on with things after the penny seemingly dropped when breaking maiden status at Canberra last start. While not beating a great deal, the ease in which he produced the win was highly encouraging.
SHOTGUN ROULETTE was a first-up winner at Taree before falling marginally short of consecutive successes at the course. The mare was campaigned up over a mile and beyond last preparation so a rise to 1500m third-up should prove beneficial.
DISTINCTIVE LOOK was placed in a Highway Handicap two starts back before running fourth in a strong Class 2, 15 days ago at Scone. The gelding is in a purple patch of form at present and stays under notice.
LUXURY should be at his peak fourth-up and ready to do something stepping up in distance. Wasn't far from the winner in a race at Canterbury last preparation over 1550m.
SELECTIONS: No12 COOL IN BLACK, No8 Shotgun Roulette, No5 Distinctive Look, No1 Luxury
VALUE RUNNER: No5 Distinctive Look
R4 2.00pm TAB REGINALD ALLEN QUALITY 1400m
INVINCIBELLA hit the ground running with a first-up maiden victory over 1200m. The filly rises in class and distance on the outing however should be up to the task judging by how she returned. Stakes placed last preparation in the Lancaster Stakes at Eagle Farm, Waller runners often return from Queensland trips bigger and better.
Anticipated strong tempo out in front will play into the hands of SMART AMELIA, who was doing her best work late when fourth in the Furious Stakes. Watch for her late again here.
PURRARI was a first-up winner over 1200m at Canterbury where she narrowly edged out New Zealand import Rosa Carolina. Expect the form line to hold up well in this field.
PECANS chased hard to finish on the placegetters heels at Canterbury resuming last start. The extra distance a plus and right in the mix with the first-up run under her belt.
SELECTIONS: No2 INVINCIBELLA, No5 Smart Amelia, No1 Purrari, No11 Pecans
VALUE RUNNER: No1 Purrari
R5 2.35pm STAN FOX STAKES 1500m
IMPENDING has placed in each of his two starts this campaign, the latest when third to boom stablemate Astern in the Group 1 Golden Rose a fortnight ago. There is less depth to this contest, he will strip fitter third-up and could be further sparked by the application of Blinkers first time.
DIVINE PROPHET ran fourth in the same event, not far off Impending and making plenty of late ground in the process. The son of Choisir settles back and in a small field on Saturday won't be giving those in front as big of a head start.
THRONUM lost his chance at a Golden Rose success when he was slow away and forced to be ridden upside down. His prior outings in The Rosebud and Run To The Rose were strong. If able to dictate at his leisure the colt could take some running down late.
GOOD STANDING showed good improvement in the Golden Rose with Blinkers going on for the first time.
CELLARMAN much improved run finishing on the placegetters’ heels at Canterbury last start. Harder here but on the improve and worth including in the wider exotics from a good gate.
SELECTIONS: No1 IMPENDING, No2 Divine Prophet, No4 Thronum, No3 Good Standing
VALUE RUNNER: No7 Cellarman
R6 3.15pm SCHWEPPES GLOAMING STAKES 1800m
SWEAR (Best Roughie) hit the ground running with a first-up win in the Ming Dynasty. Parked outside the lead on that occasion, he won't be far away again in this. With added fitness second-up, he can maintain his unbeaten record with a rise to 1800m the only slight query.
PRIZED ICON disappointed in the Chelmsford Stakes three weeks ago however a post-race exam confirmed there were excuses. The colt is capable of better as evidenced by his two-year-old season. His first-up outing in the Up And Coming Stakes was also sound.
HIGH MIST was scratched from the prior event to contest this. Suspect it is a case of connections pulling the right reign. The colt was dropped back in grade last start and saluted as a clear odds-on favourite over a mile at Warwick Farm. A son of High Chaparral, the colt has always given the indication the distance will suit. He could take some beating at his first race-day outing beyond a mile.
Stablemate VELADERO accounted for a small field at Warwick Farm ten days ago to post his second win from as many starts this campaign. There is more depth to this affair but the colt is certainly open to further improvement.
SELECTIONS: No2 SWEAR, No1 Prized Icon, No3 High Mist, No5 Veladero
VALUE RUNNER: No2 Swear
R7 3.55pm RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE WESTMEAD GOLDEN PENDANT 1400m
The class mares at the top of the weights are well suited in this line-up, namely FIRST SEAL. The Group 1 winning mare resumes after an autumn campaign which included a Millie Fox Stakes win and a second in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes. The daughter of Fastnet Rock has generally produced her best results against her own sex. She strikes those conditions here and appears particularly well suited under Set Weights plus Penalties.
TYCOON TARA has been excellent since arriving at the Snowden Stable and wasn't far off three consecutive wins when fourth in the Theo Marks Stakes, beaten less than a length. She will be prominent throughout here from an inside draw.
HEAVENS ABOVE is the definition of a mare in form. A winner of the Sheraco Stakes a fortnight ago. The daughter of Street Cry should be better suited third-up and out to 1400m.
DIXIE BLOSSOMS never saw daylight in the Sheraco and looked to have plenty to offer. Solid return in the Toy Show two runs back and just needs even luck in running here to be right in the finish.
DENMAGIC just died on her run over the last few strides when a close fourth in the Sheraco. Rates as one of the main chances with the first-up run under her belt.
SELECTIONS: No1 FIRST SEAL, No2 Tycoon Tara, No5 Heavens Above, No10 Dixie Blossoms
VALUE RUNNER: No9 Denmagic
R8 4.35pm SHANNON STAKES 1500m
HI WORLD (Next Best Bet) third run from a spell after placing in The Sofitel last start at Flemington. He will be fitter again, has won third-up previously and belongs to half of the field who sit inside the handicap. He has a workable barrier in (4) and Blake Shinn should be able to get a tune out of him. Would no doubt appreciate any give in the track also.
SELECTIONS: No4 HI WORLD, No2 Entirely Platinum, No5 Old North, No7 Caped Crusader
VALUE RUNNER: No8 Kellyville Flyer
R9 5.15pm HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP 1400m
Hard to ignore the strength of INVINZABEEL's first-up win at this course and distance a fortnight ago. He rises in grade on that outing however will no doubt strip fitter second-up. From barrier (2) he should enjoy all of the favours. The son of I Am Invincible is yet to put a foot wrong this preparation having also trialled strongly prior to that first-up success.
Lack of condition perhaps told with BULLRUSH a fortnight ago when resuming here over 1200m, tiring late for a 1.9 length fifth. It was a solid return despite running below market expectations. His short but sweet autumn campaign was strong and is unbeaten second-up. Expect the lightly-raced five-year-old to be prominent throughout.
Behind Stablemate Invinzabeel, DINGHU MOUNTAIN is an excellent Plan B for the Waller stable. He turned plenty of heads behind Invinzabeel last start and now meets the winner 1kg better at the weights.
EXTENSIBLE has been a model of consistency so far this preparation and fell only marginally short of consecutive wins last start at this course over 1500m. She drops in trip four weeks between runs and for now a sprint journey is probably what the mare is better suited at.
MAGICAL STANCE freshened up and back in distance. No surprise to see him in the finish.
SELECTIONS: No7 INVINZABEEL, No3 Bullrush, No13 Dinghu Mountain, No10 Extensible
VALUE RUNNER: No15 Magical Stance
