Race 1 1:40pm CHIFLEY FINANCIAL SERVICES PLATE 1100m
NONPAREIL has better form on the board than a maiden. A soft trial leading in has her prepared for this.
SPRIGHT has had two strong trials leading into a first-up assignment. Yet to run a bad race in her career.
ECKSTEIN with a “jockey” on would be hard to beat, but have my doubts about the stable jockey in the city.
SEEBLUME has had two typical Waller trials leading into a debut run and a strong showing is expected.
SELECTIONS: No 5 NONPAREIL, No 8 Spright, No 2 Eckstein, No 7 Seeblume.
Value Runner – No 7 Seeblume.
Race 2 2:15pm INDEPENDENT EDUCATION UNION PLATE 1100m
NICCOLANCE after two strong trials should be ready to break his maiden. At his best he was less than three lengths from Capitalist.
BASTIA has trialled quite well leading into a debut run. Stable are known to pull off big betting moves with debutants.
SHACKLETON should take up the speed here with blinkers on for his debut. Waterhouse stable is starting to warm up and this colt has trialled super.
STAR OF MONSOON is starting to hurt the punters a little, but has solid form and another bold showing expected.
SELECTIONS: No 6 NICCOLANCE, No 1 Bastia, No 10 Shackleton, No 11 Star Of Monsoon.
Value Runner – No 1 Bastia.
Race 3 2:50pm NEW LAW HANDICAP 1900m
LANCIATO drops in grade and jumps in distance here. The form around Antonio Guiseppe is more than good enough for this.
BROADSIDE was a strong winner at his Australian debut. He should take up the speed again here and be hard to beat.
BERETTA carried the big weight last start and dominated from the front. With the big weight he should be on speed again and be hard to run down.
MY GIULIANO won well last start, but gets back onto a drier surface here which is against him here.
SELECTIONS: No 2 LANCIATO, No 3 Broadside, No 1 Beretta, No 4 My Giuliano.
Value Runner – No 1 Beretta.
Race 4 3:25pm NGS SUPER HANDICAP 1300m
MORTON’S FORK (Next Best Bet) has better form/ability than a midweek race. The form around Russian Revolution and Thronum has stacked up quite well in recent months and he has had a soft trial leading into this race. He is well placed for a first-up win before going off to Melbourne for the carnival.
SELECTIONS: No 7 MORTON’S FORK, No 10 Machinegun Jubs, No 3 Montauk, No 2 Mon Pere.
Value Runner – No 10 Machinegun Jubs.
Race 5 4:05pm GOW GATES INSURANCE HANDICAP 1500m
Really have a lot of time for ROMNEY’S CHOICE and he is the Best Roughie of the day here. He looks to have come back a better horse this time in, evidenced by his win first-up. He looked to have a lot of improvement to come as well from that first-up run.
COTTAGE won well upon resumption. McDonald went down to ride her that day and sticks with her again here.
YOU ARE GOLDEN won well last start in a better race than this. She has to carry a big weight for this and has struggled with big weights in the past.
LONGKISSGOODNIGHT is starting to really hurt the punters here and with the weight swing on You Are Golden, she needs to be given a chance.
SELECTIONS: No 10 ROMNEY’S CHOICE, No 3 Cottage, No 2 You Are Golden, No 7 Longkissgoodnight.
Value Runner – No 10 Romney’s Choice.
Race 6 4:45pm BELMADAR HANDICAP 1100m
YUMA DESERT went to a new level last preparation and is really well off at the weights after the claim for Heywood here. The form around her is quite strong and should be good enough for this.
PAINTED FIRETAIL looks as if she may live up to her early wraps this preparation after a big win fresh. She has always had above average potential and hopefully she can live up to it here.
REINCARNATE wasn’t suited by a wet track when a short-price fav first-up. With the fitness benefits and back onto a drier track second-up, he should be in the finish.
MR MANHATTAN resumes after a long break and has had two soft trials leading into this. He has a great first-up record and if he is wound up, even with the big weight he is good enough.
SELECTIONS: No 8 YUMA DESERT, No 11 Painted Firetail, No 9 Reincarnate, No 1 Mr Manhattan.
Value Runner – No 1 Mr Manhattan.
Race 7 5:25pm TEACHERS HEALTH FUND HANDICAP 1500m
ACATOUR (Best Bet) won well and survived a protest first up. He drops 4.5kgs for that first-up run and is really well placed. He holds nominations for some of the big group races over the spring carnival and should be winning this if he is to live up to those big wraps.
SELECTIONS: No 10 ACATOUR, No 6 Balmain Boy, No 7 Dragon Flyer, No 12 La Muse.
Value Runner – No 6 Balmain Boy.
