It is probably not ideal to start with the best bet of the day in a maiden at 10.52am but REAL CLASSIC (BEST BET) does look extremely hard to beat. As a two-year-old last season he was placed behind one of the most promising horses in Queensland in Tiyatraloni before having no luck at all when just behind the place-getters in a Listed race. At his last start in June he was odds-on but again had no luck when third. He trialled nicely last week for his comeback run and has the top jockey. This is not exactly a hard race.
SELECTIONS: NO 2 REAL CLASSIC, NO 9 LIBELULA, NO 4 CRAZY POPS, NO 8 WITNESS.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 1 ACUTUM.
R2 11.32am CANADIAN CLUB QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
RAINY DAY WOMAN should have broken her maiden status well before this. She has turned into something of a non-winner but has been placed her past two starts and gets her chance here with no weight and a reasonable barrier draw.
ATOUCHMORE has form around some handy horses and got home strongly in a shorter race at Toowoomba last time.
EASTERN PARADISE has been just behind some handy horses of late.
PAGE ONE is nicely bred and wasn't asked to do much in a trial recently. The stable is in great form.
VICTORY STREET trialled well in Toowoomba recently.
SELECTIONS: NO 10 RAINY DAY WOMAN, NO 1 ATOUCHMORE, NO 3 EASTERN PARADISE, NO 5 PAGE ONE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 12 VICTORY STREET.
R3 12.12pm PAGES EVENT EQUIPMENT QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
BILLY THE KID has impressed us in his trials and jump outs. He looks like being a nice horse at 1400m-1600m but should run well fresh here after two placings at first campaign.
CORNFORTH has had no luck at either of his runs and shapes as the main danger.
RED RIGHT OUT trialled very well and then rattled home at the Gold Coast when third at first start. He is suited on the bigger track here.
SHARPAMAL has been getting wraps out of the Gold Coast trials and looks a hope at odds at first start here.
SELECTIONS: NO 1 BILLY THE KID, NO 2 CORNFORTH, NO 6 RED RIGHT OUT, NO 7 SHARPAMAL.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 7 SHARPAMAL.
R4 12.52pm MITAVITE MAIDEN PLATE 1400m
A hard race with many chances poorly drawn.
HENRY'S AFFAIR had no luck from a wide barrier last time and drawn poorly again. But wide barriers don't seem to be such a major problem at Eagle Farm from this start.
KUTTAMURRA AL will want further than this but he has form around Queensland Derby winner Eagle Way and then was just behind the place-getters in two stakes races during the winter. He has not trialled but has had a jump out. Obviously the big danger.
NORTHERN REVENGE has been placed seven of his thirteen starts and always a hope this type of race.
BAY MOSS has had four trails for his debut here and his latest effort was a big improvement. He could race well at odds here.
SELECTIONS: NO 9 HENRY'S AFFAIR, NO 5 KUTTAMURRA AL, NO 12 NORTHERN REVENGE, NO 1 BAY MOSS.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 12 NORTHERN REVENGE.
R5 1.35pm CHANNEL SEVEN CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1500m
MANDRYKA (NEXT BEST BET) has been good with two seconds in two runs back from a spell. The latest was second to potential top galloper Sharpe Hussler. He gets in here very well at the weights after the 3kgs claim for leading apprentice Josh Oliver. He has always appealed as stayer of the future and 1500m at this stage of his campaign is ideal. He has barrier two which means he should be able to sit just off the pace with cover and he should be far too strong at the finish for these horses who are basically midweek battlers.
SELECTIONS: NO 1 MANDRYKA, NO 8 BLOOMING TYCOON, NO 5 GROBBELAAR, NO 2 SAGAMAMA.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 8 BLOOMING TYCOON.
R6 2.52pm GREEN OPTIONS RACING PTY LTD CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1845m
If you listen to coat tuggers, TONI MAY will be the next big thing to come out of the Sunshine Coast. She trialled very well and then has won her past two starts. The 1800m looks ideal and this isn't a hard race. She does have a tricky barrier and a big weight but should be hard to beat.
BROCSON has been racing well without winning and has a nice barrier and a handy weight.
SHE'S A RUBY was scratched from an easier race recently and she has been looking for 1800m or perhaps even further. She is another with a good barrier and handy weight.
SIDERO STAR has won two of his past three starts and was very strong in winning at 1800m at the Gold Coast. He will just need some luck from the wide barrier.
SELECTIONS: NO 1 TONI MAY, NO 5 BROCSON, NO 9 SHE'S A RUBY, NO 7 SIDERO STAR.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 9 SHE'S A RUBY.
R7 3.32pm CASCADE BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 1400m
FRIENDLY DRAGON scored a huge upset this track and distance last start. But he has won six times at 1400m and loves Eagle Farm. Any rain won't do him any harm.
ABU BEN ADAM was well-beaten at 1600m last start but is back to his pet distance of 1400m where he has won five times. He has a big weight and wide barrier but can go forward and get a good position here.
BELFLYER had been going well in the bush before a big run when third this track last start. He is much better drawn for this.
STAROCITY was terrible last start but a few other horses went poorly that day. Give him one more chance on previous solid form.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 FRIENDLY DRAGON, NO 1 ABU BEN ADAM, NO 7 BELFLYER, NO 10 STAROCITY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 7 BELFLYER.
R8 4.08pm JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200m
MARTINELLI has won four of his five starts and has been well-placed throughout his career. Looks very hard to beat here as the 3kgs claim offsets the wide barrier.
FORGOTTEN YEARS is resuming but was a good second in a trial at the Sunshine Coast behind a very fast horse in Blue Desert Moon last week. Can race well fresh here.
BEAU JET gets back in his races which has been a disadvantage of late. This is easier than recent races and he does have some ability.
AUSSIE JACK let us down badly when our special at the Gold Coast recently and looked certain to win at the 200m only to finish third. Has been placed both second-up runs so deserves some thought again here.
IMPULSIVE SPIRIT (BEST ROUGHIE) has fair Victorian form and good effort at first run this area when had no luck.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 MARTINELLI, NO 1 FORGOTTEN YEARS, NO 2 BEAU JET, NO 4 AUSSIE JACK.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 IMPULSIVE SPIRIT.
R9 4.47pm JIM BEAM CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1300m
DODGE THE PRESS is stepping up from a maiden win to a Class 1 but could not have been more impressive in beating an odds-on favourite last start.
SUBSOLAR shows promise as a stayer but this distance suits second-up.
DUKE DE VEGA beat some promising horses to win his maiden in September and no luck last start failure.
RED MAGIC doesn't win many but sneaks in here with no weight after a claim and ideally drawn on the rails. Looks the value runner.
SELECTIONS: NO 7 DODGE THE PRESS, NO 8 SUBSOLAR, NO 1 DUKE DE VEGA, NO 11 RED MAGIC.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 11 RED MAGIC.
