The rail is out 11 metres at Eagle Farm, which is as far as it has been since the new racing surface was installed. However, with relatively small fields, it should play fairly. There are storms predicted, so keep an eye on the weather and remember Eagle Farm goes from dry to very wet quickly these days.
R1 12.35pm GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
A strong race to start the day, with just about every runner having some hopes, but premier trainer Tony Gollan holds a good hand here with OF THE DAY who is well bred and a good second at only start at the Sunshine Coast. Has a claim here so gets in very well at the weights.
Her stablemate HUSSON BOOTS has been most consistent of late without winning. Dropping back to 1200m which might suit.
DENLAGO was racing well before a spell and has trialled nicely for a comeback run here.
GYPSY MISS has had a few chances when well backed but not without claims here.
WINDY SANDS has some NSW form at longer trips but we are told jumped out well recently.
SELECTIONS: NO 8 OF THE DAY, NO 7 HUSSON BOOTS, NO 5 DENLAGO, NO 6 GYPSY MISS.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 4 WINDY SANDS.
R2 1.15pm CASCADE COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
REAL AMBITION was good at his only start last year but has had problems since. He did win a trial nicely at the Gold Coast recently and should be in the finish here.
ROCK ON DESTINY has a habit of being slow to jump but in two starts last campaign impressed. His recent trial was only ordinary but not asked to do a lot.
KINGS LEGEND ran on well when second at his only start at the Sunshine Coast.
His stablemate KNOWING FRANK was also a good second at his only start, also at the Sunshine Coast.
EXCEED ALL ODDS is very well bred and although has not had an official trial, is reportedly working well.
SELECTIONS: NO 7 REAL AMBITION, NO 8 ROCK ON DESTINY, NO 3 KINGS LEGEND, NO 4 KNOWING FRANK.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 2 EXCEED ALL ODDS.
R3 1.50pm GIDDY UP CLUB QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1600m
ORDER AGAIN is stepping up to 1600m quickly having had only one start for an impressive fourth. The stable is noted for middle distance runners and stayers.
PAR ONERI has been placed in stakes company and recent form has been solid. Some question marks at 1600m but is a horse which has always shown potential.
TICKETOME was very strong at the end of 1200m last time but going to 1600m quickly.
EL SHADAY has trialled well and is also working solidly. He has been ordinary in two runs this time but might be looking for 1600m.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 ORDER AGAIN, NO 4 PAR ONERI, NO 5 TICKETOME, NO 1 EL SHADAY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 1 EL SHADAY.
R4 2.25pm JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM CLASS 3 PLATE 1000m
TUMBLER has had more problems than a footballer on an end of season trip, but she is very good and provided she has some luck from the barriers will be very hard to beat.
GRACIDA had good form around this distance last campaign and nice effort first-up when fourth at Doomben.
MAGIC DIAMOND has some handy NSW provincial form and caught the eye when winning a recent Deagon trial.
JOMAR’S ELEMENT has been most consistent of late and scratched Saturday for this.
SELECTIONS: NO 6 TUMBLER, NO 1 GRACIDA, NO 8 MAGIC DIAMOND, NO 2 JOMAR’S ELEMENT.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 8 MAGIC DIAMOND.
A very ordinary race and hard to get enthused about any of them but we went with LUCKY LUCRE who has a terrific first-up record. He has never won at 1000m but no trial leading into this race and he should be fresh.
MIDNIGHT CURFEW has been getting beaten at Bundaberg, his home track, but last time he came to Brisbane he won a Saturday race at Doomben, albeit a Country Cup.
BRIGADOON LEGEND has been racing well enough to trouble this field.
CAMOUFLAGE is much better than first-up run and has won second-up.
GRACIDA has accepted in two races and at time of writing the trainer was undecided which way to go. Obviously if he starts here will be among the favourites on strength of good first-up effort.
SELECTIONS: NO 2 LUCKY LUCRE, NO 3 MIDNIGHT CURFEW, NO 4 BRIGADOON LEGEND, NO 6 CAMOUFLAGE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 3 MIDNIGHT CURFEW.
R6 3.40pm MOET & CHANDON CHAIRMAN'S CLUB FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1300m
CRUISING SPEED (BEST BET) is a very promising horse who was scratched from a race on Saturday for this. There is a slight worry at the 1300m first-up but the stable has never made any secret they feel she could be a future stakes horse. She has had no official trial but has gone well in a jump out. From the perfect barrier draw (4) she should be in the race from the jump. Forget her failure at her only start on this surface as she got caught in the part of the track which was six lengths slower than out wide.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 CRUISING SPEED, NO 4 HEARTFORD, NO 7 LADY MACAN, NO 6 ZERO TOLERANCE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 RUBYMAY.
R7 4.15pm SKY THOROUGHBRED CENTRAL COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1300m
PATRONIZING (NEXT BEST BET) has been good at his two starts back from a spell and has not had much luck. Third-up from a spell here should be at peak fitness and looks very well placed with a 3kgs claim and an inside barrier. He should either lead or sit just behind the pace here and be hard to hold out. This isn't a strong field and a few of these have a lot of convictions.
SELECTIONS: NO 5 PATRONIZING, NO 7 KINGTANTES, NO 4 ARCHYTAS, NO 9 TURKANA.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 9 TURKANA.
R8 4.55pm RACEZONE CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1600m
HALLS CREEK looked certain to win a much harder race at the 2000m last time but just peaked. He is a funny horse whose runs need to be timed to the second. But gets his chance to win here.
THERMAL UNIT is an honest plugger who won well last time. This type of race suits him well.
WICKED TRILOGY is another who has been racing well and had to come from a wide barrier last time. Drawn to get a much better run here.
EYE OF HORUS (BEST ROUGHIE) has won his past two starts in the northern rivers and is well up to this class. Can finish very fast. The Matt Dunn stable is flying at the moment.
SELECTIONS: NO 5 HALLS CREEK, NO 8 THERMAL UNIT, NO 10 WICKED TRILOGY, NO 12 EYE OF HORUS.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 12 EYE OF HORUS.
