It was hard not to be impressed with JUNGLIZED on debut at Muswellbrook. He was quite green in the run and ran a pretty fast time (33.2s last 600m). He should only improve for that experience and if you want a horse to run straight, Callow is the man to do that.

VERANILLO was outstanding in a trial at Warwick Farm. He sat wide under no pressure at all, and when he was asked for a little effort he extended away quite sharply. He is quite well bred and should be a player here.

THE MISSION was really well supported in the Breeders Plate (SP $5.5) before missing the kick and having a poor recovery post race. He has since freshened-up and zipped around in a trial (32.58s last 600m). Given the wraps on him before his debut he needs to be respected.

EPIC RANT has had the benefit of two trials and is bred to be an early runner and all Waterhouse two-year-olds need to be respected.

SELECTIONS: No 1 JUNGLIZED, No 7 Veranillo, No 6 The Mission, No 3 Epic Rant.

VALUE RUNNER: No 6 The Mission.

Race 2 1:20pm CLUB MARCONI HANDICAP 1300m

CADOGAN (NEXT BEST) looks to be much more suited here second-up, out to 1300m. He was just out-dashed in a sit and sprint race at Rosehill in a small field too. I like the second-up at 1300m here; he trialled brilliantly before his first-up run and looks to be in for a great campaign. His first-up race should be a good form race going forward and mixes in with the Spright form (won 2 Group races) and she would be $1.20 here.

SELECTIONS: No 2 CADOGAN, No 4 Zumbelina, No 6 Mandee, No 1 Samadoubt.

VALUE RUNNER: No 2 Cadogan.

If VASSAL is ever going to win a race this preparation, this is the one. His last two runs have been quite good. He gets out to a trip that should suit and gets onto hard ground which he prefers and he should be hard to beat here.

DOC HOLLIDAY was good when winning last start over 2700m. He should roll along here in front and I expect Callow to get rolling early on in the race and hope to take the sprint out of the rest of the field. Could be hard to run down.

DER MEISTER was good last start on Cup day in a similar sort of race. He has had two runs over 2400m after jumping sharply in trip and looks to be well suited here.

JUDGE DOOM with no weight could be the fly in the ointment here. She won a horrid race at Wagga over 2500m and if they leave her in front who knows? Lasquetti Spirit anyone?

SELECTIONS: No 1 VASSAL, No 3 Doc Holliday, No 8 Der Meister, No 9 Judge Doom.

VALUE RUNNER: No 8 Der Meister.

Race 4 2:30pm TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1400m

NOBLE DESCENT (BEST ROUGHIE) was super at Wagga first-up in a race that was not run to suit. That day all winners were in the first three around the turn and he flew from last to be just beaten. He gets a similar sort of a run here and Shinn will hold him up for one last crack at them and if he gets the luck he will be hard to beat.

BUDDEROO KNIGHT was a dominant winner at Kembla last start after coming out of a strong Highway race first-up. The form out of that race has been ridiculously good and after that dominant win last start, he looks to peak third-up.

NIC’S VENDETTA comes out of that same race at Randwick and finished in front of BR. But he was slightly disappointing last start in a race that he should have probably won. He carries the same weight here and the step up to 1400m looks suitable.

DYRHAM PARK has been very good at winning his last two at Canberra and Nowra. Off the freshen up back to 1400m, he looks well suited and finds Avdulla here. He is quite adaptable and from gate (4), Avdulla will have plenty of options.

SELECTIONS: No 4 NOBLE DESCENT, No 1 Budderoo Knight, No 3 Nic’s Vendetta, No 5 Dyrham Park.

VALUE RUNNER: No 4 Noble Descent.

Race 5 3:05pm ALL OUR MOB HANDICAP 1200m

MEURSAULT looks well suited here first-up after two solid trials. He took on some good races last prep and did start as favourite in the Hareeba at Mornington where the form has stacked up quite well. He looks to have the last shot at them and will be hard to beat.

THAT’S A GOOD IDEA was good in a stronger race than this on Cup day. He hasn’t been missed with the 62kgs here, but if the track is rock hard, he could well win this.

MORAL VICTORY back off a freshen, was quite good in the Toorak last start. He was way up in grade there and looks to be suited here. He was a strong winner at his two previous runs before that and has to be respected.

SNIPPETS LAND has trialled well leading into his first-up run here. He is a winner over 1200m in the past and with the way Snowdens are going at the moment, he has to be given a chance here.

SELECTIONS: No 5 MEURSAULT, No 1 That’s A Good Idea, No 3 Moral Victory, No 2 Snippets Land.

VALUE RUNNER: No 3 Moral Victory.

PAINTED FIRETAIL (BEST BET) was super in a listed race at Geelong on Cup day, which was not run to suit at all. Races were dominated by pacers that day and she hit the line powerfully, but was never in contention. Horses who made ground included Oceanographer and we all saw what he did in the Lexus! Back in grade here and down in weight, she is going to be terribly hard to beat.

SELECTIONS: No 6 PAINTED FIRETAIL, No 5 Nudierudie, No 3 Daysee Doom, No 1 Wine Tales.

VALUE RUNNER: No 6 Painted Firetail.

TRAFALGAR has trialled in imposing fashion leading into this first-up run. He is unbeaten fresh and I love that he has had the two trials and one over the 1200m leading in. After the claim for Magorrian, he gets down to only 53kgs and will be hard to beat.

MOHER gave them absolutely no chance last start in what was a brilliant ride by young Heywood. Avdulla jumps on here and that can only improve his chances, but there looks to be a touch more pressure and he could be found wanting late.

MR GUSTAVO was quite good first-up in what looks to be a good race. He should have taken great benefit from that given that he was up on the speed there, and back in grade after a claim he is well in.

BALMAIN BOY comes out of a good race last start, but always seems to find one better and probably has the same issue again here.

SELECTIONS: No 5 TRAFALGAR, No 2 Moher, No 1 Mr Gustavo, No 8 Balmain Boy.

VALUE RUNNER: No 5 Trafalgar.

Race 8 5:00pm #THERACES HANDICAP 1300m

REDOUTABLE HEART off a year off and two solid trials looks ready to go first-up here. The form around him, given it is a year ago, is quite good, but off the two trials he looks ready to go and is back to his best form. His winning strike rate is an issue, but after the claim he looks well in.

RYKER has trialled in imposing fashion here. He is another one with a horrid winning strike rate, but at his best he is a stakes class horse. 1300m looks to be a perfect starting point here and he is a winner first-up in the past.

CANA won well last start after coming out of some really good races before then. She takes on the boys here which is a touch concerning, but given the strength of her last start win, she has to be respected.

ASINARA was plain horrid first-up. She never worked into the race and looked a chance at any stage. Maybe it had to do with the rain that fell before and during the run. With mares, you never know what can set them off, but she is double her price here and could easily turn it around.

BURNING PASSION comes into this race with the same set-up that has won him races in the past, which is a trial between runs. He rises 7kgs in weight off his last run, which was in better grade than this.

SELECTIONS: No 5 REDOUTABLE HEART, No 4 Ryker, No 7 Cana, No 9 Asinara, No 1 Burning Passion.

Race 9 5:40pm TAB REWARDS HANDICAP 1100m

ELEMENOHPEE didn’t have much luck first-up and was caught wide throughout. He stuck on quite well and the run needs to be respected. He should be brought on quite well for that run and has drawn (1) here. With even luck he will be hard to beat.

NIETA was utterly dominant last start and in fast time. The step up to the 1100m should pose no issues whatsoever given that she will sit off them and have the last shot at them.

RAPHAEL’S CAT has the best form of any horse in this race (Keen Array and Kinglike), but is first-up for over a year. He has had two solid trials coming into this and looks ready to go.

INFRA DIG got the job done well for followers last weekend and backs-up quickly here. This race looks much stronger than that, but she has to be respected yet again.

SUGAR BAY LEONARD is also down to run Friday night (Race 5 Canterbury) and looks to be a good thing there. Has to be respected if he turns up.

SELECTIONS: No 6 ELEMENOHPEE, No 8 Nieta, No 2 Raphael’s Cat, No 12 Infra Dig, No 10 Sugar Bay Leonard.

VALUE RUNNER: No 2 Raphael’s Cat.
