A record meeting of 13 races and one has to ask why; how it will increase betting turnover across the board for the week is anyone's guess. But there are 13 winners to be found and with the rail out between seven and five metres it should be a frontrunners’ day (well, at least horses which can get to the famous Sunshine Coast crown on the home straight first). The weather forecast is again for storms and some showers, so the track should be on the soft side.
R1 1.40pm STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
Just to make things a bit harder, this is the first time the two-year-olds have been to 1200m.
But WIRRAWAY has run two good races in Saturday metropolitan class and should race well here.
SKATE TO PARIS was handy only run in Saturday class and GEM OF THE LOCHS is from a stable which knows which races to pick for its two-year-olds and is trained on the track.
VOODOO MANGO MAGIC was awful at his only start but is related to some of the best wet trackers in Queensland. If it is wet, he is a chance.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 WIRRAWAY, NO 7 SKATE TO PARIS, NO 5 GEM OF THE LOCHS, NO 2 VOODOO MANGO MAGIC.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 2 VOODOO MANGO MAGIC.
R2 2.15pm ACCESS INSULATION CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1600m
Watch the weather because none of the field are best on wet tracks.
BRIGHTNBREEZY has been consistent and gets in well at the weights. Will be good odds here.
KUTTAMURRA AL is a maiden but has run well in stakes races.
LIGHTNING BELL out to the right distance now and SUBSOLAR working up to a win, just needs to jump cleanly.
SELECTIONS: NO 4 BRIGHTNBREEZY, NO 2 KUTTAMURRA AL, NO 1 LIGHTNING BELL, NO 3 SUBSOLAR.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 4 BRIGHTNBREEZY.
R3 2.50pm STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1000m
GOLDEN MINESHAFT (NEXT BEST BET) is a class mare and with the 3kgs claim here looks very well placed. She raced in much better company last campaign and won a good standard Saturday race here before a spell. Her first-up record is very strong and it would surprise if she isn't in the finish.
SELECTIONS: NO 1 GOLDEN MINESHAFT, NO 5 ISIS MAGIC, NO 4 MIRI MIRI, NO 2 MOSS HARRY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 2 MOSS HARRY.
R4 3.25pm ACCESS INSULATION MAIDEN PLATE 1000m
BAGGINS won a trial nicely and then chased home a promising horse when second first up at Ipswich. Has a claim here and looks hard to beat.
TIZ can be weak to the finish and 1000m is as far as she likes to go but has hopes.
DUNN GREAT trialled well and then no luck only race start while OUR JAMAICA had some solid form last time and gets in well here at the weights after a 3kgs claim.
SELECTIONS: NO 1 BAGGINS, NO 10 TIZ, NO 8 DUNN GREAT, NO 5 OUR JAMAICA.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 8 DUNN GREAT.
R5 4.05pm STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400m
TEMPETE ROUGE saw a lot of the track last start and his second was very good. The stable is in good form and this track suits.
HIGH SPECS was disappointing last time but better than that.
BALABINA is better suited at this distance after fair run last time and VENETIAN BEAUTY can run into a place at big odds.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 TEMPETE ROUGE, NO 1 HIGH SPECS, NO 2 BALABINA, NO 10 VENETIAN BEAUTY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 2 BALABINA.
R6 4.40pm BOWCOCK BLOODSTOCK HANDICAP 1350m
This is the main race from last Saturday transferred to Wednesday after a wash out of the last three races at Doomben. At the time of writing most have indicated they will run.
LORDAG looks suited on this big track first-up. He has a great record this track.
RUDY loves wet tracks and should also appreciate the big Sunshine Coast circuit. He goes well fresh.
JOPA looks well weighted and also likes it soft but has a poor record this track.
FRESPANOL will be a lot fitter for recent racing. COL ‘N’ LIL was good first-up and this bigger track also suits here.
SELECTIONS: NO 11 LORDAG, NO 1 RUDY, NO 4 JOPA, NO 3 FRESPANOL.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 13 COL ‘N’ LIL.
R7 5.20pm ACCESS INSULATION COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400m
KULABA has turned in two very good runs at his past starts and this distance also looks ideal for him.
PUISSANCE DECHEVAL very good when second at Doomben last start and SEA ROUTE handy last time but stepping up sharply in distance.
SICARIO trialled okay and this is easier than last time.
HIGH WIND could be seen as a disgrace to his family as he is bred to win the Melbourne Cup but one day he might hit form and win a race like this.
SELECTIONS: NO 2 KULABA, NO 4 PUISSANCE DECHEVAL, NO 6 SEA ROUTE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 8 SICARIO.
R8 6pm STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200m
DODGE THE PRESS (BEST BET) has been racing very well and does like this track. Rising star apprentice Michael Murphy will claim three kilos and he is perfectly drawn to lead or sit just behind the pace. This race is weak and he does look hard to beat. He is dual accepted but at this stage will run in this race.
SELECTIONS: NO 5 DODGE THE PRESS, NO 4 SAYS ME, NO 10 WONDERFUL TALE, NO 1 SHEEZALADY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 7 DEEKS.
R9 6.35pm ACCESS INSULATION CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400m
Probably the hardest race of the day but RENESMEE was well backed to win a race at Doomben on Saturday before it was washed out.
SHELTER LADY has been very consistent and well drawn while AIRLIE REWARD, unbeaten in two, goes this track and distance.
BIANTIC is also near a win and THE UMBRELLA MAN was dreadful last start when we really liked him. He is much better than that run or at least we thought he was.
DODGE THE PRESS is a dual acceptor and if he runs here obviously has a good hope.
SELECTIONS: NO 6 RENESMEE, NO 7 SHELTER LADY, NO 5 AIRLIE REWARD, NO 11 BIANTIC.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 2 THE UMBRELLA MAN.
R10 7.10pm STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS F&M RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HANDICAP 1200m
A truly awful race made even harder by the fact SHELTER LADY has accepted in two races and at this stage there is no indication which one she will run in. Obviously a top chance if runs here.
OPINIONATED has finally struck form and won two of her past three starts. This looks to be her race.
OCEANTES would drive anyone to drink but did make up good ground last start while DAM WONDERFUL will find this much easier than last start.
SHE'S A KICKER is not that bad around the provincials and is a recent country track winner.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 SHELTER LADY, NO 7 OPINIONATED, NO 1 OCEANTES, NO 4 DAM WONDERFUL.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 10 SHE'S A KICKER.
R11 7.45pm STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS C, G&E RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HANDICAP 1200m
D'HARMONY is a nice horse in the making and a good winner last time. APOLLO HOPE looks well placed here with a 3kgs claim while MONACO PLAYBOY was solid first-up and has run good races in better company.
CALL ME RUSTY would be best on a wet track and FIVE SPICES shows promise and big priced winner second up earlier in his career.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 D'HARMONY, NO 7 APOLLO HOPE, NO 6 MONACO PLAYBOY, NO 5 CALL ME RUSTY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 8 FIVE SPICES.
R12 8.15pm STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HANDICAP 2200m
JIMMY HOFFA came from a mile back when fifth at Ballina last start and this should suit on a big track at 2200m.
WHAKATANE is at 2200m for first time but shows a bit of promise and ALFIE JUNIOR could steal this with a soft lead.
KAZAN (BEST ROUGHIE) has a very good record this track and distance and is always value odds.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 JIMMY HOFFA, NO 2 WHAKATANE, NO 4 ALFIE JUNIOR, NO 10 KAZAN.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 10 KAZAN.
R13 8.45pm STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1800m
We would have made TONI MAY a special but feared many of our punters would be asleep by this race. She will be a lot fitter for last start when got bogged down last 100m to finish third.
MANDRYKA is the obvious danger if he backs up from hard run Saturday while AUDREE was a strong winner last time.
GROBBLEAAR is also getting fitter and HEART STEALER is a rough hope.
SELECTIONS: NO 4 TONI MAY, NO 2 MANDRYKA, NO 5 AUDREE, NO 3 GROBBELAAR.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 7 HEART STEALER.
