The rail is out seven metres the entire course, but at least it is Doomben where we know the track should play fairly with small fields most of the day and at least it isn't Eagle Farm, which reverted to favouring horses drawn wide and coming deep in the straight last week again, making betting a minefield.
R1 12.27pm GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP 1110m
A hard race because half the field is having their first starts and have not trialled in public. Of those we know KINGS LEGEND was very good first-up and then raced a little flat last time, but does look hard to beat here.
FAST VISION has had four starts and placed twice before a spell. This is second preparation and should go okay.
BEACON STREET is bred to go fast and LUNA FIORE reportedly went solidly in a recent jump out.
SELECTIONS: NO 1 KINGS LEGEND, NO 6 FAST VISION, NO 5 BEACON STREET, NO 3 LUNA FIORE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 6 FAST VISION.
R2 1.05pm BRC CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200m
A very even race with GRACIDA racing well enough to win this after a handy trial and then two solid return runs this campaign.
JOMAR'S ELEMENT didn't have a lot of luck last start and not without a hope.
CAMOUFLAGE showed he was back near his best with a narrow second last start and JACK LANCASTER has been honest and followed two wins with an unlucky fifth last time.
OLTRE FINITO had some good Melbourne form earlier in his career and he won a trial at Ballina last month in very good fashion.
SELECTIONS: NO 5 GRACIDA, NO 7 JOMAR'S ELEMENT, NO 3 CAMOUFLAGE, NO 2 JACK LANCASTER.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 1 OLTRE FINITO.
R3 1.40pm HAMILTON HOTEL QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350m
REALING trialled nicely before debut where struck trouble and finished third. Fitter here and should be in the finish.
ATOUCHMORE has not run a bad race in five starts to date and has been placed behind some smart horses. He will just need some luck from the bad barrier.
HENRY'S AFFAIR was terrible last start but had no luck from a bad barrier. He is much better drawn here and previous form was solid.
GYPSY MISS has run some handy races and is usually an each-way hope these races.
TURQUOISE was much better last time than seventh placing would suggest. Don't be shocked if she improves sharply.
SELECTIONS: NO 7 REALING, NO 1 ATOUCHMORE, NO 5 HENRY'S AFFAIR, NO 8 GYPSY MISS.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 11 TURQUOISE.
R4 2.15pm MOUNT FRANKLIN MAIDEN PLATE 1350m
TAIKO BOOM has been racing well and gets his chance to break through for a win here. Has a good barrier and leading jockey, combined with best form in the race.
KINGFISHER BAY was huge odds when second at Ipswich last start, but that was a solid run and this isn't strong.
REAL AMBITION has had a few problems but trialled well for his comeback and then went poorly last start. He is much better than that and deserves another chance.
PRIEST'S ROAD has had a few chances but a good second two runs back at Ipswich and then finished off nicely when not that far away at Eagle Farm last time.
ATOUCHMORE has accepted in two races and at the time of writing no indication in which he will start. If he runs here is obviously a major player.
SELECTIONS: NO 3 TAIKO BOOM, NO 9 KINGFISHER BAY, NO 2 REAL AMBITION, NO 1 PRIEST'S ROAD.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 9 KINGFISHER BAY.
R5 2.50pm BRC CHRISTMAS MOVIES TRACKSIDE CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1110m
MAGIC DIAMOND (NEXT BEST BET) had some handy NSW form before she won a trial at Deagon in impressive fashion. She then ran into a potential superstar when second first-up at Eagle Farm. The time was very good and she was very well fancied in the betting. In fact, she was backed into favourite, which was a shock because the winner Tumbler is very smart. Looks to have her chance to atone here from the good barrier.
SELECTIONS: NO 6 MAGIC DIAMOND, NO 11 JENNIFER JUNIPER, NO 7 LE DUDE, NO 2 MISERY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 3 CRUISE POWER.
R6 3.25pm WEDDINGS AT BRC FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200m
HESITATION (BEST BET) has raced in far stronger events and has gone well. She probably wants further than 1200m but first-up with a 3kgs claim this race should be ideal. She has won twice first-up and was less than six lengths from quality galloper Takedown in the Gold Coast Guineas last time. In fact, she wasn't far from the minor placings. She just needs some luck from the inside barrier to win this.
SELECTIONS: NO 1 HESITATION, NO 8 SWEET REPEAT, NO 7 FINAL OVER, NO 3 ROSIE POSIE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 12 LADY MERCURY.
R7 4.05pm MOET & CHANDON CHAIRMAN'S CLUB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350m
HICKSON ROAD trialled only fairly but improved sharply to win his first start this area at the Sunshine Coast. This distance looks ideal.
PATRONIZING has been most honest this campaign without winning. Gets his chance here in what is an ordinary race.
LADY MACAN was only fair last start but two good runs this track and distance at previous efforts give her claims in this.
BIAGIOTTI has a wide barrier but should roll forward and will give them something to catch under her light weight. She has had two fair trials for her return.
SELECTIONS: NO 6 HICKSON ROAD, NO 3 PATRONIZING, NO 8 LADY MACAN, NO 9 BIAGIOTTI.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 9 BIAGIOTTI.
R8 4.40pm WWW.BRC.COM.AU RATINGS BAND 0 - 70 HANDICAP 1640m
LOTHARIO has got up in the weights but his Sydney form was good and he was a strong winner last start over 1600m at first run this area.
THE GREY FLASH landed a big betting move at the Sunshine Coast when winning first start this area. She just has to overcome a bad barrier here from this tricky start.
GEORGIO (BEST ROUGHIE) will be good odds here but has claims. He won well at Ballina and has had a trial since where not asked to do much. The trainer rarely comes to the city unless she has something, which is a chance.
GAME OF FAME once ran in a Victoria Oaks but has had many problems since. On her day would beat this field but it is a matter of catching her day.
SELECTIONS: NO 2 LOTHARIO, NO 7 THE GREY FLASH, NO 4 GEORGIO, NO 14 GAME OF FAME.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 4 GEORGIO.
