GOLDFINCH (NEXT BEST) showed that she was an early runner in the trial and ran her trial in the fastest time of the morning without being asked for an effort. On debut she gets a good 3kg claim down to 53kgs and if she is left to run they won’t catch her.
SELECTIONS: No 3 GOLDFINCH, No 5 Lass Vegas, No 4 Jessamin, No 6 Magic Feng.
VALUE RUNNER: No 3 Goldfinch.
Race 2 2:20pm TAB HANDICAP 2200m
BRASSY BELLE (BEST BET) on the quick back-up looks really well suited here. She has had a few runs over the distance where some of her opponents here have not had the same grounding. She does rise in weight, but this is not as strong a race. Bowman back off a Hong Kong raid on the weekend just adds another tick.
SELECTIONS: No 3 BRASSY BELLE, No 2 Estikhraaj, No 4 Grand Allowance, No 1 Prince Morpheus.
VALUE RUNNER: No 4 Grand Allowance.
Race 3 2:55pm SCHWEPPES HANDICAP 1200m
CUDABEEN comes through some good races. Last start she was only five lengths off Omei Sword, back onto good going here and she should be hard to beat.
SEVENTHCHIC has trialled well enough coming into this. She gets the big impost here and we see her on good going for the first time, which are unknowns, but happy to take the punt off the trial.
SUGARPARMA has trialled well enough leading into a first-up run. She had quite a long campaign over the winter and that’s why we see her now. She is probably on her way to the Magic Millions and this is a good starting point.
NEVER OUT won in good time on debut. This looks to be a logical progression and he has to be considered.
SELECTIONS: No 2 CUDABEEN, No 1 Seventhchic, No 3 Sugarparma, No 5 Never Out.
VALUE RUNNER: No 3 Sugarparma.
Race 4 3:35pm TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP 1400m
EGG TART (BEST ROUGHIE) should have trotted in on debut. He is still looking for clear running today! He gets a good jockey change here. If he can get clear running from the top of the straight, he will blow this lot away.
FLOW gets his chance to win a race here. He was good in a maiden on Cup day working home quite well. Up to 1400m helps.
AXIOMATIC was good on debut and gets race-plates for the first time. Bowman on and up to 1400m suit here.
COLLAGE wasn’t suited by how the race was run last start. Previous to that she was really good over the track and distance and gets another chance here.
SELECTIONS: No 7 EGG TART, No 1 Flow, No 5 Axiomatic, No 9 Collage.
VALUE RUNNER: No 7 Egg Tart.
Race 5 4:10pm #THERACES HANDICAP 1400m
THURSTON was super at his first run last prep for Waller and resumes off a freshen here. The trial since has been pleasing and this is as weak a race as he has contested in a while.
SAYED is first-up from overseas and is probably looking for further but the trials have been good enough and the booking of Bowman is a pointer.
ROCK OF MAHAL comes out of a really good race last week. Up 100m to 1400m will suit as he is performed up to a mile.
I’M ROCKIN’ steps up to 1400m for the first time and it looks as if it should suit (he has been running on well in recent races).
SELECTIONS: No 1 THURSTON, No 2 Sayed, No 5 Rock Of Mahal, No 4 I’m Rockin’.
VALUE RUNNER: No 2 Sayed.
Race 6 4:45pm AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB HANDICAP 1600m
DESTINATION TUCSON finds a winnable race first-up here. I’m convinced her record is better than it looks and over a mile fresh I want to be on her.
RAITZA comes out of a good race on Cup day where the form has held up well. The trial since was quite good.
BELLA GALEANO gets a good claim for Heywood, who has been riding well as of late. Her form this time in has been quite good and she is a winner at the track in the past.
ARTISTIC BEAUTY is well set up for a good run here. The two runs since a spell in highways have been quite good and the trainer has been noted in saying a mile is this horse’s pet trip.
SELECTIONS: No 5 DESTINATION TUCSON, No 6 Raitza, No 2 Bella Galeano, No 9 Artistic Beauty.
VALUE RUNNER: No 5 Destination Tucson.
Race 7 5:25pm TAB REWARDS HANDICAP 1200m
IN THE VANGUARD was scratched out of a better race than this on Saturday and finds a soft option here. She gets Clark and is supremely weighted in this grade.
LOUIE SEA KAY really hit the line well first-up over 1000m. The step up to 1200m looks ideal here. McEvoy on board is yet another plus.
I AM IMPRESSED won well and in a fast time at Gosford. Coming to the midweeks off that is the next step here.
CHAVISH finds a good race to resume in here. He has a nice record and is well weighted after a claim for Heywood.
SELECTIONS: No 5 IN THE VANGUARD, No 2 Louie Sea Kay, No 6 I Am Impressed, No 1 Chavish.
VALUE RUNNER: No 2 Louie Sea Kay.
