Eagle Farm Betting Preview | Horse Racing Tips
Eagle Farm played a few tricks last week!
Thu, 24 Nov, 12:00 AM
Eagle Farm played a few tricks last week with jockeys steering well away from the inside rail. This week the rail is out 2.5 metres and the track should play fairer. One thing which has become apparent is that horses can win from wide barriers at most of the starts. Thunderstorms are predicted so watch the weather closely as Eagle Farm can go from good to a bog in minutes.

R1 12.52pm SOUTHBANK INSURANCE BROKERS QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1200m
Not the strongest two-year-old this year but at least there is some exposed form. It is made harder because trainer Gillian Heinrich has the first five horses in the opening betting market.
HIMALAYAN SALT fought on very well when a close second to a handy two-year-old at the Sunshine Coast. Provided the inside running isn't "off" she will be hard to beat here.
COOL MOVER trialled well and didn't go too badly when taken to Sydney first-up.
BOLD KINGSTON was okay first-up at Doomben and then won a trial before going to Rockhampton for an easy win. He has a two kilogram claim and a good barrier.
SERIOUS DOUBTS was good when second at Doomben and has the pace to overcome the wide barrier.
ZINZI is back from Sydney where he went poorly but previous run this track and class was handy.
SELECTIONS: NO 6 HIMALAYAN SALT, NO 8 COOL MOVER, NO 2 BOLD KINGSTON, NO 5 SERIOUS DOUBTS.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 11 ZINZI.
R2 1.27pm WEDDINGS @ TATTERSALL'S BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 2206m
FLITERO has been most impressive in his past two wins. He is starting to get up in the weights but does look the one to beat again.
SHANAKEE is a Sydney visitor who has some fair southern form. However, there looks to be only a few chances here and this should suit.
RETUNE is back from Sydney where a good last start all the way winner. He has been racing well but the 59kgs is no help under this weight scale.
REALLY SURE stormed home to win last start and is from a noted staying stable. She was third at one of her two tries this distance.
LEVER LEVER is a non-winner but this is his pet distance so give another chance at odds.
SELECTIONS: NO 2 FLITERO, NO 8 SHANAKEE, NO 1 RETUNE, NO 10 REALLY SURE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 9 LEVER LEVER.
R3 2.03pm WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP 1000m
STELLA OMBRA has shown plenty of potential this campaign but yet to deliver a win. However, there is so much pace here that getting back and being drawn wide may not be a disadvantage. Watch for him charging home.
TRUBIA is the class runner here and has very good first-up form. He is up in weight and has a bad barrier but still a hope.
LUCKY METEOR is starting to show something like his old form and was a good third in Sydney last start. He will be one racing up on the pace.
LADY JETTSETTER loves 1000m but all of her best form is at Doomben. Still she gets in here with a fly weight and looks hard to beat.
SELECTIONS: NO 11 STELLA OMBRA, NO 2 TRUBIA, NO 5 LUCKY METEOR, NO 7 LADY JETSETTER.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 LUCKY METEOR.
R4 2.38pm CARLTON MID QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1400m
BILLY THE KID made short work of a maiden field last start. He has plenty of ability and should make the step up in class from what looks an ideal barrier draw.
VOLPINO caught the eye with his strong finishing third at Doomben last start which followed a good Gold Coast maiden win. Not sure barrier (2) is a help but 1400m certainly is.
REAL CLASSIC showed his real form when an easy winner at the Gold Coast Coast. He is another who will love 1400m.
MEET AND GREET has plenty of ability but probably wants 1800m. Nevertheless, not without hopes here.
DAUNTING LASS is triple figure odds but her last start was a lot better than it looks on paper. She is a value hope.
SELECTIONS: NO 6 BILLY THE KID, NO 9 VOLPINO, NO 8 REAL CLASSIC, NO 2 MEET AND GREET.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 16 DAUNTING LASS.
R5 3.18pm FUNCTIONS @ TATTERSALL'S CLASS 3 PLATE 1300m
BENFICA PRINCESS (NEXT BEST BET) has won her past two starts over 1600m like a future top-line stayer. She has no early pace but a very big finish. She will get a long way back here but Eagle Farm has been suiting run-on horses in these type of races. It means the wide barrier could actually be an advantage. This is a step up in class but it is not the strongest race we have seen this season. We don't like tipping three-year-old fillies against older horses but she is the one with a bright future.
SELECTIONS: NO 15 BENFICA PRINCESS, NO 11 SAY YOU LOVE ME, NO 10 MADAME DE BAN, NO 2 BERNITCHY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 12 STAR OF NIGHT.
R6 3.58pm COLIN MCALPINE AM MEMORIAL CLASSIC 1200m
This race was once called the Mode Plate and has produced a lot of classy winners. It should be no different this year with a solid field again accepting.
ELEGANT COMPOSURE won her first six starts and her last race before a spell was in far stronger Group Two company. Goes well fresh and well-drawn here.
PRIVATE SECRETARY has handy Sydney form and a bad barrier. We should know by this race if there are any problems with being drawn wide.
BUTTERBOOM has solid enough Sydney form to be a chance here. She just never has any luck.
NOTONYOURLIFE deserves a chance at stakes company with two very strong recent wins. There are a lot of key scratchings here and she gets her chance now.
GOLDEN MINESHAFT was beaten in an easier race last start but she is much better than that.
SELECTIONS: NO 10 ELEGANT COMPOSURE, NO 2 PRIVATE SECRETARY, NO 6 BUTTERBOOM, NO 5 NOTONYOURLIFE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 13 GOLDEN MINESHAFT.
R7 4.38pm SKY RACING TATTERSALL'S RECOGNITION STAKES 1400m
LORDAG had no luck in a good quality handicap at the Sunshine Coast. He went virtually the full length of the straight being held up for a run and should have probably won. Just needs to get to the outside here.
RUDY struck interference at the 600m last start and did a good job to finish fifth beaten less than a length. He is down 2kgs in weight here and this type of race suits. Also he is very good second-up.
FRESPANOL is a stakes winner and also very good winning in the same race as Lordag and Rudy last time. He will want some luck to bag this but has good each way hopes.
CYLINDER BEACH is a stakes winner as a three-year-old and has been working very well. He is right down in the weights here and another with a hope.
IN HIS STRIDE (BEST ROUGHIE) has always shown ability and does race well this track. He looks one of the best value hopes of the day despite the class rise.
SELECTIONS: NO 10 LORDAG, NO 2 RUDY, NO 3 FRESPANOL, NO 12 CYLINDER BEACH.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 15 IN HIS STRIDE.
R8 5.15pm G.H. MUMM BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP 1200m
OBERLAND (BEST BET) resumes here in a tricky race. But he is a very good fresh horse having won three from four first-up and three from three for this stable. His form was around better horses than this in the winter. He hasn't trialled but reportedly has gone okay in a jump out. In-form jockey Larry Cassidy will ride from an ideal barrier. He should either lead or sit just behind the pace.
SELECTIONS: NO 14 OBERLAND, NO 11 DENARIUS, NO 6 APPLE THIEF, NO 3 MR JETSET.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 13 BEAU JET.
