Canterbury Park Betting Preview | Horse Racing Tips

Small fields early on, but we look to have some good betting opportunities.

Wed, 7 Dec, 12:00 AM
We have eight races to preview for Friday night. Small fields early on, but we look to have some good betting opportunities to make our bank for the weekend.

There has been some rain around during the week, but Canterbury is our best draining track and will be a soft 5 at worst. The rail is out 3m the circumference.

Quaddie (Races 5,6,7,8)
Skinny 1,5,9,10 – 1,6,7,8 – 4 – 2,11
Wide Field – 1,2,5,6,7,8,13,14 – 3,4,6,7 – 2,3,5,6,11,12

Next Best Race 7 No 4 ZESTFUL
Best Roughie Race 6 No 1 EL NOVIO

R1 – 6:15pm TAB SPRINT (1100 METRES)

Tactical Advantage (Best Bet) Has trailed brilliantly twice leading into this race. He is yet to be asked for an effort and has gone through his gears well. I can’t wait to see what happens when he is let go. His two starts 12 months ago were great form races and he will be winning this.

SELECTIONS: No 1 TACTICAL ADVANTAGE, No 2 Good Time Charlie, No 3 Memes, No 4 Bolly

VALUE RUNNER: No 1 Tactical Advantage

Northwest Passage Loved the debut win at Hawkesbury, blew them away and really worked through his gears through the line. The step up to 1900m is a touch questionable here, but off solid trials and with Hyronemius on board, hard to go past.

Black On Gold Beat next to nothing last start at $1.22 – if he didn’t win well you would have been worried. Rises 4.5kgs and loses Bowman, both big negatives.

Delacroix Found the line well enough at Hawkesbury, was just too far off them there. Should take a closer position here and be thereabouts.

Lucky Tiger Led them up in the Black On Gold race last start and was no match, running well and has a place chance here.

SELECTIONS: No 2 NORTHWEST PASSAGE, No 1 Black On Gold, No 7 Delacroix, No 4 Lucky Tiger

VALUE RUNNER: No 7 Delacroix

Via Napoli Just touched off in a solid race last Wednesday and gets a crucial weight drop here. From barrier (2) and with the winkers on for the first time, I think she will take a closer spot in the run and be in the finish.

Lubiton Drops well in grade after a good run over 1200m last start where she looked a good thing. The step up to 1550m is a touch concerning here. She drops 2kgs and gets Clark back aboard who rode her well on Melbourne Cup day and has a chance.

Raitza Gets a good weight drop here after what was a shocking run as SP fav last start at Warwick Farm. She hasn’t won for a long while and I give her a chance now at the mile.

Bannatyne Gets a host of gear changes here off a last-start win, in what looked to be a good race. From barrier (1) McEvoy should have her bang on speed.

SELECTIONS: No 4 VIA NAPOLI, No 5 Lubiton, No 7 Raitza, No 3 Bannatyne

Pleased Was a really good debut winner at Hawkesbury after some solid trials. He really powered through the line after sitting a long way back in the run. The step up to 1550m suits and he is the style of horse that will suit Doyle.

Austin Finished off well in a good race last start. McEvoy jumping on is a good jockey change here, and from the good gate he should settle a little closer in the run and be stoked up from the 600m.

Fat Chap Looks the logical leader here and will be much fitter for a strong first-up run. Gai’s horses are all used to carrying big weights so don’t let that scare you off. 1550m suits much better here.

Gold Artisan Brings some solid form into this race given he finished off well behind Zumbelina last start. Before that he was a dominant winner in a maiden.

SELECTIONS: No 8 PLEASED, No 6 Austin, No 1 Fat Chap, No 7 Gold Artisan

Nagging Trialed well at Wagga leading into this. Her first-up record isn’t the best, but what I liked about that trial was that she was given a solid hit out. She has always looked to be a city class mare and gets a chance here.

Chosen Prayer Ran well in a solid BM70 on Goulburn Cup day. She was coming off some solid runs in the city before that. She finds Shinn here and gets a chance to break back into the winner's circle.

Princess Command Comes out of a fast run race last start. She hit the line really well that day and I like her back at 1100m here. That looks to be her pet distance and Parr riding like a man possessed at the moment gives her a chance.

Ski Angel Wasn’t suited well by the big bias at Wagga last start. She has placed second-up previously before and finds McEvoy here and could bob up at big odds.

SELECTIONS: No 10 NAGGING, No 5 Chosen Prayer, No 1 Princess Command, No 9 Ski Angel

VALUE RUNNER: No 9 Ski Angel

El Novio (Best Roughie) Like the jump up to 1900m second-up here. He may be a run short but I’m happy to take the punt that Waller has him ready. He found the line well first up and McEvoy sticks and from (13) I expect him to stride up to the leaders.

No Return Was a little flat last start but, if you’re willing to forgive him for that his previous run was quite good. He loses Bowman here but still has a chance off recent form.

Sea Sharp Was given a sore back last start and has drawn quite sticky in (14) here. Heywood will be out to rectify his last start ride here and will need to produce a pearler.

Marman Was a good winner last start and really attacked the line well. He got a perfect run that night from barrier (1) and from (7) tonight, Shinn will need to have his thinking cap on.

SELECTIONS: No 1 El Novio, No 6 No Return, No 7 Sea Sharp, No 8 Marman

Zestful (Next Best Bet) Is unbeaten fresh and will be out to maintain that record here. Given this race has been given Saturday prizemoney Lees will have her ready to go here. Her form last time in was better than this grade and she should be winning.

SELECTIONS: No 4 ZESTFUL, No 3 Highly Geared, No 6 Fiftyshadesofgrey, No 7 Satirical Magic

VALUE RUNNER: No 6 Fiftyshadesofgrey

Bonny O’Reilly Looks well suited here getting out to the 1250m. She has closed off quite well in both runs leading into this. Avdulla on suits her more and he will be able to lift her late in the race here.

Sonic Swish Was a little flat second-up after a booming first-up win at Randwick. Down in grade but up in weight isn’t much of an issue given he carried 60kgs first up. From gate (7) he should stalk the speed and have the last shot at them.

Bogie Won well leading all of the way last start. Clark gave the rest of them no chance to beat him that night. He looks to give this mare the same sort of a run here and be hard to run down.

Static Lift Trialed well enough leading into this to be given a chance here. She is a winner first-up in the past and she progressed to city grade last time in and this is a suitable kickoff.

SELECTIONS: No 11 BONNY O’REILLY, No 2 Sonic Swish, No 3 Bogie, No 6 Static Lift

VALUE RUNNER: No 6 Static Lift
