This is a metropolitan standard meeting run at Doomben on a Friday because of a big off-track promotion.

There have been storms around Brisbane for the past week and the track has been rated as a heavy. Doomben is an excellent drying track but the big problem is that drying weather in the Brisbane summer means more thunderstorms.

The rail is out 9.5 metres, which should suit frontrunners early in the day but the backmarkers usually come into play later in the day. One other trap for Doomben on wet days is that soft and heavy track form from other racecourses often doesn't hold up here.

QUADDIES (Races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny: 2,8,9,11 / 1,5,6,10 / 2,4,5,7 / 2,7,8
Wide: 2,9 / 1,5,6,10 / 2,4 / 7

Best Bet: R 4 – 12. St Hilary
Next Best Bet: R 2 - 4 Real Ambition
Best Roughie: R 5 - 6 Silento

R1 - 1:57pm. Ellyce Galvin Maiden Plate – 1350m

ATOUCHMORE Is yet to run a bad race but has trouble winning one of these races. He has been placed behind some handy horses and he is a placegetter on a soft track. The 1350m should suit him and he isn't harshly placed under Plate conditions. Top jockey Jim Byrne will ride and his style will suit.

BEAU ISA Trialled nicely at Deagon and then only start was a good second at Ipswich. He will be fitter here. Bred to handle the wet.

HIGH WIND Is related to some of Australia's best stayers but he is just a plodder. He has been placed in the wet and will slog away here.

CAPA CAYLEE Liked the way he trialled before handy first run at the Gold Coast. Another who will be improved by recent efforts.

SELECTIONS: NO 6 ATOUCHMORE, NO 1 BEAU ISA. NO 4 HIGH WIND, NO 8 CAPA CAYLEE.

VALUE RUNNER: NO 8 CAPA CAYLEE.

R2 - 2:40pm. Chris Galvin Maiden Plate – 1350m

REAL AMBITION (NEXT BEST BET) He showed a lot of early promise but hasn't been the same horse since a mishap in a trial earlier this year. He did win a trial in October and has had two starts back, with the latest being a very good second at this track. If he is ever going to win a race this should be it and he is bred to handle a wet track. Jockey James Orman has had a lot of success for this stable of late.

SELECTIONS: NO 4 REAL AMBITION, NO 1 ENDLESS DON, NO 6 EASTERN PARADISE, NO 9 LUNA FIORE.

VALUE RUNNER: NO 9 LUNA FIORE.

R3 - 3:15pm. Tyler Craven Class 3 Plate – 1350m.

THAT’S MA BOY has been racing very well in easier races on the Darling Downs but is showing plenty of ability. There is no reason he should not measure up to this class. He has not won in the wet but has been placed three times in soft or heavy going. A two kilos claim is also a big help here.

JILL’S CHARM has been racing truly at the provincial tracks with two wins and a second past three starts. It is her first try at this track but has the top jockey in Jeff Lloyd.

SAYS ME is another that tries hard in his races and can finish quickly. There is plenty of early pace here so should be suited.

RULER’S PRIDE has not had much luck in his races of late and should have finished closer at his run this track and distance two starts back.

SELECTIONS: NO 3 THAT’S MA BOY, NO 6 JILL’S CHARM, NO 9 SAYS ME, NO 7 RULER’S PRIDE

VALUE RUNNER: NO 7 RULER’S PRIDE

R4 - 3:52pm. Tellina Craven QTIS Three-Years-Old Fillies Maiden Plate – 1200m.

ST HILARY (BEST BET) She won't get a much easier chance to win a maiden than this. She has run second at both her race starts and on both occasions finished very strongly. Lani Fancourt will claim 2kgs here and she does look extremely hard to beat. We are loathe to make maidens specials but she does look the most promising in this field by a long way.

SELECTIONS: NO 12 ST HILARY, NO 7 KITTY, NO 10 MUMFORD, NO 9 MENA'S CHOICE

VALUE RUNNER: NO 9 MENA'S CHOICE

R5 - 4:34pm. AMGROW QTIS 3-Y-O Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate – 1200m.

STARCOURT Would have made him a special except for his horror barrier draw of the extreme outside. He went very well in an open three-year-old at his first start this area and then raced flat second up. The 1200m should be ideal here and champion rider Michael Rodd has the mount

BAGGINS Rarely has one horse had so much bad luck in his races. He should have won a maiden by now. A senior rider takes over here but now he has a terrible barrier.

SONIC BLOOM Has caught the eye in several trials over the past few months. His only start he had no luck when third. Another with a bad barrier.

TAKARAKKA Is from the top stable. He might be the knockout horse first up from a good barrier.

SELECTIONS: NO 9 STARCOURT, NO 2 BAGGINS, NO 8 SONIC BLOOM, NO 11 TAKARAKKA

VALUE RUNNER: NO 11 TAKARAKKA

R6 - 5:04pm. Kiarne Tillyer-Lordi Benchmark 75 Handicap – 1650m.

SAN TELMO There is no doubt he can win an open company staying race in Brisbane this campaign. This is a nice race to start his preparation and he was strong in winning a Deagon trial recently. He has raced well in much better company when fresh in previous campaigns. Also he has never been out of the places at this distance.

SILENTO (BEST ROUGHIE) He has generally been a disappointment. But he hasn't been far away in much better races than this. He does go well when on the fresh side when there is plenty of pace on. Watch for him late.

BOLD AVENUE He has had two runs back from a spell and been solid both times. He has won twice at the distance and looks well placed at the weights with a 3kgs claim.

WICKED TRILOGY One of the most consistent restricted class horses around but just can't win a race. Could easily lead these from the barrier and might finally win one.

SELECTIONS: NO 1 SAN TELMO, NO 6 SILENTO, NO 5 BOLD AVENUE, NO 10 WICKED TRILOGY.

VALUE RUNNER: NO 6 SILENTO.

R7 - 5:34pm. Sky Thoroughbred Central Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap – 1200m.

SOCIAL VAMPIRE She was one of the better early season three-year-olds and she has usually gone better after a few runs, but she is more mature now and has had a jump out. She is the class runner here and has the pace to overcome the poor barrier draw. She does look to be ready for a big campaign over more ground.

SHEEZALADY Has been racing well without winning since coming to this area. If she can get a handy run on the pace she will be hard to hold out.

JENNIFER JUNIPER She was a long way back at her first start before finishing well to be fifth. She usually races closer to the pace and she is a winner this track and distance.

WINDY SANDS She had solid NSW provincial form before winning first-up here and then a good third behind two smart horses last time. She will go forward and just needs some early luck.

SELECTIONS: NO 7 SOCIAL VAMPIRE, NO 2 SHEEZALADY, NO 5 JENNIFER JUNIPER, NO 4 WINDY SANDS

VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 JENNIFER JUNIPER

R8 - 6:04pm. AQWA Constructions Colts and Geldings Class 1 Handicap – 1200m.

TINGLE MARC Ran a handy time when winning only start by leading all of the way. The stable is talking about taking him to New Zealand for a Karaka Million three-year-old race. He would need to win this to be in with a chance in that. Stable obviously has an opinion of him and should be on the pace the whole way from the good barrier.

REAL CLASSIC He was set a near impossible task last start and dropped out in the straight. He is well placed back in this class and looks to be one of the main players here. He just never has any luck in his races.

FIVE STUD POKER He was impressive at his only start but the opposition was only average. There are some smart horses here but he should be in the finish.

CRUISE POWER He was fair in his only start this area and should be fitter now. He was scratched from Ipswich on Wednesday for this. The 2kgs claim here an advantage.

SELECTIONS: NO 7 TINGLE MARC, NO 8 REAL CLASSIC, NO 2 FIVE STUD POKER, NO 1 CRUISE POWER

VALUE RUNNER: NO 1 CRUISE POWER
