Eagle Farm has had a heavy workload lately. One thing which has emerged since the track reopened six months ago is that some horses just can't handle the new surface.

It is especially true for days when the track is soft. Therefore, watch for horses who have handled it and those who have performed poorly on it.

The rail is out 10 metres and yet again storms are predicted for Brisbane, but the track should be good and it will probably suit those away from the fence in the straight.

QUADDIES (Races 5-6-7-8)

Skinny: 2,3,4,8/3,6/2,5/2,10
Wide: 2,3,4,8/2,3,6,8/1,2,5,6/2,4,5,10

Best Bet: R6 – 3. FOXWHISTLE
Next Best Bet: R3 – 3. MARK MY WORD
Best Roughie: R8 – 5. PINK CUSHION

1:25pm Sky Thoroughbred Central Class 2 Handicap - 1000m

FINE FERGUS He is one of many chances in this small field but he showed he was back near his best with a strong Sunshine Coast win last start. He has performed well in stronger races than this and he doesn't have to lead. He will get cover from this barrier.

MOTION GRANTED He goes best over longer distances but fresh with a claim he can figure in the finish here. The stable has a reputation for causing upsets.

OUR RACKETEER Another who has a wrap on him but doesn't always deliver. Has trialled only fairly for comeback run but has won first-up previously.

I'M THINKING He produced a solid run without much luck when placed first-up at the Sunshine Coast and he usually runs well second-up.

SELECTIONS: NO 3 FINE FERGUS, NO 1 MOTION GRANTED, NO 4 OUR RACKETEER, NO 5 I'M THINKING

R2 – 1.05pm BRC Christmas Carnivals Maiden Plate - 2225m

HIGH PROFILE He is the best performed horse in the field with seven minor placings, but that isn't saying much because this is a truly awful field. The stable has a reputation for patching up crocks. He is bred to win a Group One staying race but the only downside is stepping up from 1600m to 2200m. Still, this is very weak.

ZARABEEL She is very well bred and did run a handy placing at the Sunshine Coast two starts back. Once ran in a Victoria Oaks. This is so weak she is a top chance here.

KHADIJA Another stepping up from 1600m but has been placed twice at 2200m from only two starts at the distance. Recent form is solid enough for this.

DUBLEO'S LAD A plodder who has been placed six times and once at this distance. Ran on well at the Gold Coast last start when second and is very fit.

SELECTIONS: NO 4 HIGH PROFILE, NO 10 ZARABEEL, NO 8 KHADIJA, NO 2 DUBLEO'S LAD

VALUE RUNNER: NO 8 KHADIJA

R3 – 1.40pm Giddy Up Club QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate - 1300m

NO 3 MARK MY WORD (NEXT BEST BET) We have had some success lately making specials in midweek maidens because they are generally lacking in depth. This is another case in point as Mark My Word looks one of only a handful of chances in this race and he has more than a few things in his favour. He had two solid trials before first-up third in a maiden in which last week's easy winner St Hilary was second. There was nothing between them on the line. He has a top jockey and a perfect barrier here.

NO 12 TEMPETE ROUGE

NO 5 ROCKSAY

NO 4 POWERFUL FLASH

R4 – 2.15pm Gallopers Sports Club Maiden Handicap - 1200m

DONT DOUBT DA WIFE Her two runs to date have both had merit as she didn't have much luck. She will be improved by the experience and light weight offsets the bad barrier.

MEGHAPUSHPA She has been placed at four of her five starts and caught the eye with good Sunshine Coast trial win in preparation for her return here.

SUGAR RAY RED Battles away in his races without showing much zip, but he has trialled nicely twice at the Gold Coast and might be ready to show his best.

BEACON STREET He was suited the way the race was run at his only start and he wasn't bad in the run home. He can improve here.

SELECTIONS: NO 9 DONT DOUBT DA WIFE, NO 4 MEGHAPUSHPA, NO 7 SUGAR RAY RED, NO 8 BEACON STREET

VALUE RUNNER: NO 4 BEACON STREET

R5 – 2.50pm Christmas Movies Trackside Colts, Geldings & Entires Class Three Handicap - 1200m

DEVIL'S FIRE He trialled nicely before his two comeback runs which have both produced seconds in handy provincial company. He is fitter now, with a top jockey and the barrier suits his racing style. Failed his only start this track but that was in Listed company.

CONFRONTING Placed two of his past three starts and both times behind promising horses. This is a bit easier and he might be finally ready to win a race.

ASHGROVIAN Doesn't have a heap of ability but is an honest trier. Always worth thought for trifectas and he can bob up with the occasional win.

PLAN RED The stable has always had a handy opinion of him. Might want a longer trip now but has strong claims.

SELECTIONS: NO 2 DEVIL'S FIRE, NO 3 CONFRONTING, NO 8 ASHGROVIAN, NO 4 PLAN RED

VALUE RUNNER: NO 8 ASHGROVIAN

R6 – 3.25pm Hamilton Hotel Class 1 Handicap - 1400m

NO 3 FOXWHISTLE (BEST BET) Had two runs at Kembla Grange last campaign for a win and a second. He trialled very well for his comeback run at the Sunshine Coast in a 1270m trial. He can race on the pace or come from behind, so has plenty of options here. He does look to have only one serious danger here in Zamex but it is drawn off the track.

NO 6 ZAMEX

NO 1 KNOWING FRANK

NO 2 TAIKO BOOM

R7 – 4.05pm Sponsor A Race @ BRC Class 5 Handicap - 1500m

QUICK SNITZEL He didn't do much first-up but is always far better at his second run from a spell. He is going to make a handy stayer this preparation but this is a perfect race for him as there are a few horses struggling to find form here.

RECKLESS ABANDON He was once rated a future stakes horse but he has never really recovered from an off-track accident. He is dropping sharply in class here, which gives him a hope.

HARADIFY He has been racing well at the provincials. This is his hardest task on paper in a while but at least he is in form.

ROMANARMA He can mix his form but a good run last time and he does like this track, which is an advantage.

SELECTIONS: NO 2 QUICK SNITZEL, NO 1 RECKLESS ABANDON, NO 6 HARADIFY, NO 5 ROMANARMA

VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 ROMANARMA

R8 – 4.45pm Ubet Fillies And Mares Class 3 Handicap - 1200m

PLUCKY GIRL She is showing plenty of potential and she beat a small but smart field last time. This is tougher but she is still down in the weights and has the services of the leading jockey. The barrier is a bit of a worry but she has the speed to overcome it.

CUSHION PINK (BEST ROUGHIE) She is also promising, although the best of her will be at 1600m to 2000m. However, her recent trial was handy and she does handle this track. She will be big value here.

MAJELLA MAGIC Now that she is being ridden back in the field she has found form. She has a big finish but just sneaking up in the weights.

STAR OF NIGHT Rarely has luck in her races but her past two efforts have been very good in stronger company. Paying the price at the weights but has claims.

SELECTIONS: NO 10 PLUCKY GIRL, NO 5 CUSHION PINK, NO 2 MAJELLA MAGIC, NO 1 STAR OF NIGHT

VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 CUSHION PINK
