Good little meeting for a Friday night here

Thu, 15 Dec, 12:00 AM
Good little meeting for a Friday night here, solid fields and good to see some of the “big boys” coming to play on a Friday in Bowman/McEvoy/Shinn, which only adds to the quality we have. The rail is out 6 metres the circumference and the track is rated good, but there is some rain around

QUADDIES (Races 5-6-7-8)

Skinny: 5,7 – 2,3,4 – 2,4 - 8
Wide: 2,4,5,7 – 1,2,3,4,7 – 1,2,4,5,6,7,9 – 1,4,6,7,8,10

Best Bet: R1 – 1. Allied Power
Next Best Bet: R2 – 1. El Venetian
Best Roughie: R7 – 2. Rustic Melody

R1 - 6:15PM SCHWEPPES PLATE - 1200m

No 1 Allied Power (BEST BET) Scratched from a harder race last Saturday. Wasn’t given much of a chance on debut when snagged right back and was allowed to find the line without being asked to do a lot. Second start, out to the 1200m suits. Love the winkers going on as he will be able to settle closer in the run. The race experience will help him and he will be hard to beat.

No 4 Gaulois

No 5 Goodfella

No 6 Single Bullet

R2 – 6:45PM TAB HANDICAP – 1200m

No 1 El Venetian (NEXT BEST BET) Just touched off first-up off a long break. That race looked quite good on paper and should hold up going forward. Second-up here he should be much fitter for that effort and has an edge on most of his rivals. Gai’s horses are running through walls at the moment and it’s foolish to go against them.

No 2 Dortmund

No 6 Thaad

No 3 Nepean

Arbeitsam On the quick back up here looks to get on pace favours. That race behind Zumbelina will hold up better than the other form lines here. Blinkers on he should roll along and be hard to run down.

Victime De L’Armour Got the job done at maiden level last start. He has shown tactical versatility so far during his career and he should be able to sit off the leader here and have the last shot at him.

Jolie’s Pearl Has taken all before her in two wins from as many runs. She steps up in grade and distance again on the quick backup. She looks to be coping with racing well and has to be considered.

Pleased Looked to be a little flat second-up. The debut win before that was quite good. 1550m is no issue off that win and from the good gate he should take a more prominent spot in the run.

SELECTIONS: No 5 Arbeitsam, No 4 Victime De L’Amour, No 3 Jolie’s Pearl, No 8 Pleased

VALUE RUNNER: No 8 Pleased

R4 - 7:45PM TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP - 1100m

Dark Eyes Has had two solid hit outs in preparation for this first-up run here. He has a good first-up record and even with the big weight I want him to be on my side. His form is in better events than this and he will be hard to beat.

Deploy Has had bone chips removed from his fetlock since we last saw him over 200 days ago. There has always been some big wraps on this horse throughout his career, but he has never delivered. Look at his form around Southern Legend and Le Romain and it’s good enough here.

Pale Ale Comes out of fast run races at Hawkesbury where he found the line well. The step up to 1100m suits here and with the likely speed scenario he may well finish over the top.

Worldly Impact Was good behind Sugar Bay Leonard last start. That form has since stacked up quite well and should be taken seriously. Shinn will have a bit to do from gate (7), but he has to be given a chance.

SELECTIONS: No 1 Dark Eyes, No 3 Deploy, No 6 Pale Ale, No 4 Worldly Impact

R5 – 8:15PM #THERACES HANDICAP – 1250m

Raiment Has trialed up well enough leading into this. I like that she has had the two trials over the 1050m leading into this. Her form last time in was good enough for a field such as this and this looks a good starting point first-up.

Fly Forward Has been serviceable enough this time in. He has hit the line really well in both runs. The step up to 1250m looks ideal here and with Parr on board you haven’t got much to be worried about as he is flying.

Redouble Has the best form of the lot coming into the race, but he may be looking for a touch further than this. He gets the blinkers on for the first-up run and the form around Sacred Elixer, Archives is legit group form that held up over the spring.

Chavish Is a winner second-up in the past and finds Bowman here. The first-up run was serviceable enough for this grade of race. With the 60kgs though, he is a minor player.

SELECTIONS: No 7 Raiment, No 5 Fly Forward, No 4 Redouble, No 2 Chavish

VALUE RUNNER: No 7 Raiment

No Return Gets Shinn here after the apprentice rode him last start. He looks well suited here. I wouldn’t be surprised if Shinn rolled forward from the gate as he has lacked that killer sprint in his last few runs.

Brassy Belle Gets the blinkers back on here in order to sharpen her up. She raced just a touch keen last start and that was her undoing. From the gate (9), she will probably go back in the field and have the last shot at them.

Austin Gets Bowman and looks well set up for a forward showing here. From the good gate (1) he should be in a stalking position throughout and if luck comes his way he should be in the finish.

Bon Equus Looks set for a good run here after a good win over the mile last start. The big weight is a touch of a concern for me. But Joe Pride’s horses are really starting to run through the line well and they need to be respected on current form.

SELECTIONS: No 2 No Return, No 4 Brassy Belle, No 3 Austin, No 1 Bon Equus

VALUE RUNNER: No 4 Brassy Belle

Rustic Melody Was good enough first-up in a race in which the form has stacked up quite well. The trial between runs was quite good, and I like her getting out in trip sharply. Last prep second-up she was competitive in the Provincial Championships. If she brings that form to this race, she could blow them away.

Francesco Drops back from Saturday level after two ok enough runs this time in. Getting up to the 1550m does suit better, as does Shinn. From barrier (2) he looks to get quite a soft run on the map and with luck can be in the finish.

Make A Mark Looks suited finally getting out to the 1550m. I don’t worry about the two runs this time in as they have been over unsuitable distances. Blinkers on a Zabeel is always a tick and he could jump out of the ground here.

Dubai King Has been quite good at winning his last two in Victoria. After the claim he is really well weighted and this looks to be shrewd placement due to the $$$ on offer here. He has a great record at the mile and needs to be respected.

SELECTIONS: No 2 Rustic Melody, No 4 Francesco, No 7 Make A Mark, No 1 Dubai King

VALUE RUNNER: No 2 Rustic Melody

Improvement Looks to get on pace favours here and was a good winner at the track and distance last start. Her debut run was quite good and in slick time. She is the horse on the way up here and after the claim she gets in well and will be hard to run down.

Alpen Rose Comes out of much better form than this at her recent runs. She was quite good behind Daysee Doom without threatening last start and her form up in QLD was solid without being brilliant. After the claim she has her chance.

Nahema Throwing this in with absolutely no idea other than Bobby Pearse is a very shrewd trainer and quite old school. No trials leading in off NZ form around the 1000-1400 metre mark. Top jockey in Clark booked. WATCH THE MARKET as that will give you the best indication.

Racy Was good in what will prove to be a good race at Gosford last start. She hit the line quite well there. The booking of Melham is an interesting one (what’s he doing at Canterbury) and would only enhance her chances.

SELECTIONS: No 8 Improvement, No 1 Alpen Rose, No 4 Nahema, No 10 Racy
