This is the first Saturday meeting back at Doomben for over a month. The track has had a lot of work in the past two years, so the rest will have done it good.

It has stood up very well and almost always plays fairly, with frontrunners suited early and backmarkers coming into play late in the day.

The rail is in the true position so there should be no excuses apart from bad luck. The weather forecast is for fine weather and the track will be good, but as always with Brisbane in the summer, keep an eye out for thunderstorms.

QUADDIES (Races 5-6-7-8)

Skinny: 3/2,7,9,10/3,7/1,11
Wide: 1,2,3,7/2,7,9,10/3,4,5,7/1,3,11,13

Best Bet: R3 – 1. Winning Rupert
Next Best Bet: R5 – 3. Cylinder Beach
Best Roughie: R8 – 11. Straturbo

R1 - 1:27pm 97.3FM Phelan Ready Stakes – 1110m

DESPATCH Melbourne-trained two-year-old who is here for the Magic Millions carnival. But he has experience running the clockwise direction with a win at his only start in a Millions clockwise race at Ballarat. He has plenty of pace and drawn to make use of his speed. He will shorten in Millions markets if he can win this.

OURS TO KEEP He was very impressive at his only start which was a win at this track. He is also chasing the Millions and needs to win or run a place here to be assured of a start. His trainer Chris Munce knows what it takes to win a Millions as he took three of them as a jockey.

SAXTON ROCK Yet another Magic Millions horse who was a strong winner this track before a short break. He has a bit of maturing to do but a good each-way hope here.

ARRESTAR He is Saxton Rock's stablemate and was an impressive Eagle Farm winner at his only start. He is well drawn and another with strong claims.

SELECTIONS: NO 1 DESPATCH, NO 4 OURS TO KEEP, NO 5 SAXTON ROCK, NO 3 ARRESTAR

VALUE RUNNER: NO 13 SO INVINCIBLE

R2 – 2.02pm International Interior Images Calaway Gal Stakes – 1110m

REAL PRINCESS This is the fillies race which is being used by many to qualify for the Magic Millions. She has been very good at both her starts and has reportedly improved since a spell. The stable has a terrific record of getting its horses into the Magic Millions and she could be the next one.

CHAMP ELECT At her only start she got up in the last stride in a race at this track. The form has been only ordinary out the race but the extra 100m here and a brief let up will have her ready to win.

INITIALIZE Her first run produced a very good second and this isn't much harder. The major problem is the outside barrier.

WE HAVE LIFT OFF Sydney trained filly who improved to win a Rosehill trial. She faces a stiff task at first start but from a top two-year-old stable and has barrier (1).

SELECTIONS: NO 2 REAL PRINCESS, NO 3 CHAMP ELECT, NO 5 INITIALIZE, NO 12 WE HAVE LIFT OFF

VALUE RUNNER: NO 10 JABROOK

R3 – 2.37pm Delfina's Bistro Gold Edition Plate – 1200m

NO 1 WINNING RUPERT (BEST BET) It seems an easy out to tip a long odds-on chance as the best bet of the day, but he really does look a good thing. He is unbeaten in three starts against similar company to this. First-up he ran a course record in winning. He is perfectly drawn to get the run of the race with the leading jockey on board. Also he perfectly placed at set weights and has won this track. If he wins this, he is two thirds of the way towards the $100,000 bonus.

NO 11 RARE OCCURRENCE

NO 2 ANOTHER SLIPPER

NO 3 BELOSO

R4 – 3.12pm DF Interiors Class 3 Plate – 1350m

NO 13 DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE He was very good when fourth behind the star Winning Rupert last start. The stable has dodged Winning Rupert this week to tackle a weaker restricted race. He has only won one race but this is weak by general standards for these Saturday Plate races. He gets in very well at the weights and on potential alone should be very hard to beat here.

NO 5 HESITATION Was well beaten at her first run back from a spell. She has a senior rider this time and the distance suits much better.

NO 10 CATENACCIO Has been racing well in easier races without winning. Has drawn a good barrier and should be able to race handy here.

NO 14 DOUBT DEFYING He is a promising horse and ran a good seventh behind Winning Rupert last start. Back in far easier company here and rates respect at good odds.

SELECTIONS: NO 13 DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE, NO 5 HESITATION, NO 10 CATENACCIO, NO 14 DOUBT DEFYING

VALUE RUNNER: NO 14 DOUBT DEFYING

R5 – 3.52pm PPS Tailored Furniture Solutions Brisbane Handicap – 1600m

NO 3 CYLINDER BEACH (NEXT BEST BET) He was among the favourites for the Group Two Villiers Stakes at Randwick before the stable decided to take on this easier race. He is already a two times stakes winner and he was far too good for a similar field first up. His trainer Desleigh Forster believes he has improved further for the win. He has always been rated a future top miler and this distance suits very well now. Drawn in the middle of the field, which means he should be able to race mid-field with cover.

NO 2 SWEET REDEMPTION

NO 1 FRESPANOL

NO 7 MAN OF HIS WORD

R6 – 4.32pm JF Construction Quality Handicap – 1000m

SAGA MISS She has been in dynamic form in races up to 1800m. She gets back but has a very big finish and there is some early pace here. As always she will need some luck to get clear in the straight but once she does - watch out.

VOLKHERE Veteran galloper who has had some injury problems in his previous campaign. But fitter for recent racing and getting out to a distance he likes on one of his favourite tracks. Don't be shocked if he leads here.

EMPHASIS He has been racing well without any luck at all. He is well placed under the weight scale here.

CRAMMING He is back from a Sydney campaign where he was far from disgraced. A dry track is the key to him and in a new stable.

SELECTIONS: NO 7 SAGA MISS, NO 1 VOLKHERE, NO 10 EMPHASIS, NO 9 CRAMMING

VALUE RUNNER: NO 6 OUTRAGED

R7 – 5.12pm Lexy Group Lough Neagh Stakes – 1350pm

MISS COVER GIRL A Group One-winning mare who had no luck at all first-up when fourth in the George Moore stakes. She could not get a clear run until the race was nearly over. She has raced against some of the best horses in Australia. She has a top jockey, a handy barrier and can handle all type of tracks. This time she should get cover and be able to get to the outside in the straight.

TOO GOOD TO REFUSE Took forever to get to the outside when ran on well for fifth in the George Moore Stakes. Better this distance and still down on the minimum weight.

MOST IMPORTANT Finally lived up to the wraps on him when he won the George Moore Stakes. He is a much better horse here at Doomben but the worry is the weight scale where he is disadvantaged against most runners.

NINTH LEGION He has earned his top weight here having won four times at stakes level. His last run was much better than it looks on paper and he does race well when he comes to Queensland.

SELECTIONS: NO 3 MISS COVER GIRL, NO 7 TOO GOOD TO REFUSE, NO 4 MOST IMPORTANT, NO 1 NINTH LEGION

VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 COOLRING

R8 – 5.48pm South Pacific Laundry Bribie Handicap – 1050m

CASUAL CHOICE He was in great form before being involved in a road accident in April. He is having his first start since that and has missed a trial last week due to wet weather. But he does usually race well fresh and has a nice barrier here in a race where many of the better chances are drawn off the track.

STRATURBO (BEST ROUGHIE) He was ordinary last start but he usually races well in Queensland and especially at Doomben where he is a stakes winner. He is right down in the weights and has a good barrier. This is the type of race where he could cause an upset.

STEEL ZIP Veteran galloper who raced very well in the winter. This distance is short of his best but he can finish fast in the shorter sprint races. Not without good claims.

PILLAR OF CREATION He has performed well in stakes class for several years and has been placed several times first-up. His best chance would be for a late thunderstorm.

SELECTIONS: NO 1 CASUAL CHOICE, NO 11 STRATURBO, NO 3 STEEL ZIP, NO 6 PILLAR OF CREATION

VALUE RUNNER: NO 11 STRATURBO
